It doesn't seem hard to make the PM fit, it's all the connectors that's consuming space (by standing upright). I'm thinking a smaller one isn't being sold because these tend to be targeted towards desktops (nobody's crazy enough to jam them into laptops). I need to stare at laptop innards for a while and figure out the spaces within...

TofuTurkey said: ↑Thanks... I'm trying to see if I can build a RAID drive out of Intel X-?Ms. There's just one SATA port (to the HDD which I will replace). I'm looking for a SATA port multiplier (PM), one that can fit either in the WWAN space (which is empty for me) or the SSD space (also empty). Right now I'm wondering if there's sufficient volume, the PMs out there are around 8.45cm x 5.00cm and have a floppy power connector's height. The other issue is that the PM uses SATA connectors to the drives, I'll probably use T-SATA ones but I'm not sure if those will fit within the allowable height...

at no point has it asked for college details, apart from the name of the college... -
For the folks who had your machine shipped today, you might be able to pick it up from your area Fedex office.
I just called and the rep added notes to the shipment saying I would pick it up tomorrow.
This is, of course, if the package makes it. The rep said they usually do. -

I was looking for this, couldn't find it (searched a bunch of threads here), thought I dreamt it up. Now to find out how to buy it...
Edit: Bloke in the video says it costs US$850I'm not sure if it'll fit the bay as well with the SSD, it's kind of long... perhaps with 1.8" drives.
Edit2: Looking at this card, trying to confirm dimensions...

I am using the HP Synaptics driver, love the two finger scrolling, but I miss the two-finger tap for middle-click and three-finger tap for left-click. Anyone managed to get these features working? Shouldn't two-finger tap be possible if it can recognize two-finger scroll?
Thanks in advance. -

So basically just register for a bing cashback account, then log in and search for 'laptop' on http://www.bing.com/shopping/ At the top right, you'll see a tigerdirect ad that says something like "X% cashback on all laptops" Click through, find the Z and order, and you'll see how much cashback you're getting at the checkout screen. So basically you pay the full price now and Microsoft will give you a percentage (the cashback amount) 60 days after your purchase. It looks like the tigerdirect cashback is no longer 15% though. Now it's down to like 8.3%...Click to expand...

MicroCenter has Z112 128ssd at 1699.99, but CompUSA has Z114 192ssd at 2099.99. I don't think $400 for an extra 64SSD is worth it. Which did you end up getting?

What kind of discount is 12.5%. I thought CompUSA went out of business - I guess only the retail stores did. I can't believe that they have the base Z, but with 192SSD in Silver for 2099.99. Which is far more competitive than Sony's. Is there tax when you purchase from them? I'm hoping MicroCenter or BB gets this same model.Click to expand...
i purchased a base model for 1899 - 12.5, so the total WILL BE 1660. no tax, free shipping, and an additional 20 dollars off if you "register" to be a preferred member. if you can wait, wait for the 15% off from tigerdirect, which supposedly happens maybe 3 times a month or so
edit - i live in CA, and i purchased it online. microcenter in the bay area currently has 3 in stock (last i checked) but they did not have a display model out (at least i didnt see one when i was there for like 10 minutes picking something else up) -
lpx said: ↑Yes, I installed Ubuntu 9.1 x64 in Virtualbox but have yet to get it to convince it to let me use a resolution greater than 1280x720 even at full screen... it's my first time with Virtualbox and it's not going well. (I installed the extras into the virtual guest and that took it up from 800x600 but I cannot see why it's not letting me have the full res). Also it hates my DPI setting. I'll maybe try VMWare Player (or similar).Click to expand...
It's all working great. I did notice at first the screen was at 1296x732 or something, but that is just the size the window happened to be at that moment! Stretching the window, while showing the display settings dialog, updates the actual value in real-time.
If I tell it to go full-screen, the display becomes 1600x900.
If I just double click on the top bar so that it becomes full screen but I can still see the virtual-box menus, I get 1600x799.
Performance is very good. When it's full screen it just feels like native linux (on a speedy machine).
I like
p.s. I am running Vbox 3.1.4 with VT-x enabled as well. -
I think it's doing something stupid because of the DPI settings. My DPI is at 150% and 1280*1.5 & 720*1.5 happen to be 1920x1080...
I'll maybe do more digging later. -

Is someone else noticing some flex in the right side of the palmrest? I would like to know if this is normal in this model or not.
I have the HDD version but that doesn't matter( I think) -
Flex on what? The plastic palmrest insert? The keyboard? The aluminum top?The entire case?

Note for anybody who changes their DPI settings: set the XP DPI mode.

I love notebookreview forums because you get so much information from them, but they need to improve the search function. You should be able to search a thread for phrases. Anyway, can someone give me the link to install the HP touchpad drivers that allow two finger scroll?
We should open a new thread with everything you should do when you get your PC. The re-install that Zoink suggested with the recovery disks and selecting not to put programs on worked really well. Also, I did everything except VM and regedit with that other list. Just couldn't find the HP drivers. Maybe a seperate thread with everything would be better.
Oh, another note, do I need Microsoft Live for anything? I have like 5 Microsoft live programs and I have never used Microsoft Live.
Thanks!!!!
Thanks!!!! -
For Signature Z owners...how are you on the battery? Is it losing life on hibernate? How long is it lasting? Do any of you have the extended battery? If so, how long are you getting on that?

I got a question about the HP multi touch, has anyone got the 3 finger flick to work? It has a setting for it in the options and i have it enabled but I can go forward and backward on web pages, like on a mac. If anyone has a fix or even another software that allows me to do this among the other mutli touch features it would be helpful.

And in answer to the 3-finger motion, yes I have it working.
What I'm finding, though, on all of the multi-finger gestures is that the fingers have to be separated just so. Say about 1/4 inch or so. Using 3 fingers together doesn't work (often triggers the pinching action), but 3 fingers slightly spread does work pretty well. -

Are these the HP Drivers? Someone posted this, but no one besides the author commented if these drivers were effective.
If you want two finger scrolling like macbook or other multitouch gestures you can download new drivers from synaptics at http://www.uscrybe.com/download.php
Or use bundled drivers with additional programs from
http://code.google.com/p/two-finger-...downloads/list
(But when i load the lastest version on that page it work fine invertical scrolling but not work for horizontal scrolling so i search inthat forum and found one that work on both scrolling at #5 in http://code.google.com/p/two-finger-...s/detail?id=19)Click to expand...
