I have TZ37 with some hard disk problem.. apparently it was SMART problem.
From when I first boot my laptop, I had to press "F1 to continue" in the boot up.

Then, frequently inside windows 7... out of nothing an error message box will appear out to make me to start backup process... this happens and happens again despite anything. and this is annoying, while I don't have the budget right now to replace my hdd. I had no problem with my data storage as I practically don't save any kind of data in this laptop.

So, could anyone help me how to shut that message down forever? I don't really want to be bugged all the time by that message. I tried windows 8 before and those messages never appear, it only appears in windows 7 !! Problem is I hate windows 8 UI so much.. And please, dont bother to reply me with "you really need to replace your hdd". I've been using this s.m.a.r.t problematic hdd for 1.5 years without any problem.

    thanks in advance :)

    Google say:

first and for most always keep an up to date back up of your os.
    second
a solution to turning off that annoying hard drive failure message if you know its not your hdd.
    Please open gpedit.msc. Navigate to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Troubleshooting and Diagnostics\Disk Diagnostic\

Double Click on “Disk diagnostic: configure execution level”, set it to “disabled”. “Not configured” is enabled by default.

One more question, guys. I tried to upgrade HDD on my TZ130 (it has about 100 bad clusters). That is, to replace 100GB GAH Toshiba drive with a new 120 GB GAL Toshiba drive. System does not accept the new one. Error 0200. Screen is attached. It is impossible to install anything. There was a suggestion that the new 1.8" GAL drive has physical cluster size of 4K instead of 512b on GAH and therefore BIOS cannot manage the new disk. Toshiba's special utility to fix this does not start from CD...

I tried some original recovery disks for this model. The first recovery disk formatted the disk, but the progress actually stopped every time at 6% (copying the files) with numerous "error" windows popping up. It may be a damaged disk (though no scratches on its surface), but I have some doubts about this...

Thanks in advance for ideas! Unfortunately, there are no more GAH disks in stock, they are discontinued by Toshiba many years ago.

    zimbros12,
    many sincere thanks for replying!
I guess my TZ130 won't be able to accept disks made for 298 series. These are two different series... unless someone confirms that it is still possible.

    Hello,

first of all sorry for my bad english.

i have a vgn tz21 wn and i read a lot about the upgrading to a ssd drive.
so what i found is the guide how to remove and insert the new one.

but i have some more questions and i hope that you can help me.
    1. which one is the best SSD for the TZ21?
    2. is its possible to upgrade the ram from 2 to 4 gb?
    3. years ago i made the update to windows 7 and it was the Hell! it cost me 4 days and the sd card reader did not work yet. is its correct that i have to do this again (Hell week!) and is the a easyer way to do this?
    4. i read that it is possible to upgrade the cpu for the TT models. is there a change to do this with the tz?

    so thanks a lot

    All the Best from germany

May not be the correct place to post this message but I need the help of you!

I have a Sony VGN TZ 350N and desire to accomplish a downgrade to Windows XP. However, I read on the website that Sony esupport Instant On is not available for XP.

I wonder if someone can show me some package with Instant On compatible with my model?
