Does anyone know if the revised US version has GPS? They're still selling the older version in my country sadly and I would rather import the revised version.

Thanks everyone for the help :) Check in Device Manager but so far all evidence points to no GPS.

Edit: Also would anyone know of a shop in the UK selling the revised Duo 11 and willing to ship internationally? Thanks a lot in advance :)

Yeah on the website I noticed that they have the GPS chip onboard. I honestly don't see why they wouldn't have it on the US version too. Wish there was a decent retailer in the UK that shipped internationally like BH Photo Video.

How about some actual pictures? All the rest of us have seen are press pictures, some Sony P-shops, and maybe one uninteresting blog photo.

I apologize I do not know how to navigate this site properly. Can anyone tell me if you can change from Windows 8 to Windows 7 on the Duo 11 and what the ramifications might be? My company can only allow Windows 7. Sorry if I am in the wrong place.

Hi, don't worry you're in the right place - this is a good thread to ask your question. I'm not aware of anyone here who has installed Windows 7 on their machine so I don't know what issues there would be, as Win7 and Win8 are near identical underneath you'd assume the drivers would load fine but that's not always the case. Personally though I wouldn't buy a Vaio Duo 11 and run Windows 7 on it, instead I'd buy a normal Ultrabook instead as one of the main functions of the Vaio is the touch screen which is very central to the design and it makes quite a few compromises for. I was setting up some all in ones at work with Windows 7 which is also the standard for us as well and after Win8, the touchscreens just felt horrible so I'd rather a standard Ultrabook rather than the Vaio if running Windows 7.

Anyone have any more case suggestions? I ordered from Sony nearly two months ago and they still have no idea if they're ever going to get them.

    John

thanks for the detailed response. I was hoping to hear differently. I need a 512SSD and this is the only one I can find that is lightweight/portable and even close in specs to my Z. Any suggestions what to get instead? I bought a refurb last week and sent it back. It didn't work and I kept getting errors. The only place I can find them is UK and it is over $5,000.00. I am under the gun right now and need to buy a laptop immeidately.

    Hello to all.
In first time...thanks to all for all the information that you put in this subforum, thanks.

Im looking for the answer to my next question, but i dont found still. I have seen some videos with DUO 11 running and using the pen in Photoshoop. I readed that the bigger problem is that dont recognized the pen presure...

...but my problem is that phosothop dont run in my DUO if I use the pen or touch :(

When I touch with finger or pen, Photoshop take a lot of time "thinking", but no response until I use the mouse/trackpad. This "freeze" only happens if I use the pen or touch. If I use the trackpad, PS runs perfectly.

This issue happens with the original drivers, and with one drivers that I found in "tabletpcreview fórum".

    Anyone have a solution/orientation?

My DUO is a silver versión with, i5 3337 and 8GB ram.

    A lot of thanks.

    Hi Fahad65,

I have this exact same issue on my Duo 11 (i5, manually installed Crucial 256 GB SSD, 6 GB Ram, Windows 8 Non-Pro). I'm curious about doing a clean install, but I haven't jumped on that idea yet. I admit I've been away from this thread for a while, so I'd better catch up!

Same thing happens on my Duo, I presume I never noticed it because I don't right click the desktop much. You are right though, it does seem like a bug. I could be way off, but it might be something to do with prefetch settings since the delay even happens when using the stylus or finger input. I don't care enough to trace this problem and fix it, but if it really bothers you back up your registry, try some pre-fetch tweaks, and report back to us if you actually solve it.

Are you using the latest version of photoshop? It certainly works with my 64 bit Photoshop CS6 v13.0.1 all with original Sony drivers (obviously pressure doesn't work, although PS is smart enough to only respond to the stylus for drawing and to treat any finger input as navigation only.

Yes, same on my UK i5/128GB/W8 non-pro model. I wouldn't say it's quite 3-4 seconds but definitely a couple of seconds pause each time I right click the desktop which doesn't occur on my other W8 machines.

    Hi sonus.

    Yes. I tried with PS Cs6 version 13.0 (13.0 20120314.r.428) and with PS CS5 12.0.
With both PS the effect is the same.
    Any sugestion?

I will very gratefull if can work with PS (the presure detection is not important for me).

On my duo its also the same. I remember I had this problem in the past with some older VAIO...don't remember which model and it was something with the Intel graphics context menu that caused this delay.

Hmmm, its very odd that you are experiencing this problem, yet no one else is. Are you using the 64bti version of Adobe? My main differentiation from the stock setup is that I have Note AnyTime disabled from the Vaio Control Cetern application. Report back if enabling that setting solves your issue.

ASUS HZ-1 USB 3.0 DOCKING STATION ISSUES....
I have purchased the above docking station, installled the software, downloaded the updated software.
When I plug the docking station into the usb port, the machines begins a funny but frustrating dance with itself. The screen jumps between two different resolutions, back and forth about every 2 seconds while the audio chirps with the sound it makes when someone is plugging and unplugging something into the usb. The only way to stop it is to unplug the docking station. Any thoughts or suggestios would be appreciated. I also am getting a usb driver error which apparently is very common per a quick search, whcih I shall post separately. THANKS!

I've had mine for a week, the rotate has completely vanished from the display settings and the lock key does nothing. My other half looked at all the solutions offered online, nothing works, not even editing the registry. I'm starting to consider returning it because I'm concerned other, more important stuff, may simply vanish in the future. The simple device orientation sensor mentioned above has disappeared. It's as if it died.

    Hi everyone,

My apologies for the delayed response. As indicated by the other forum users, removing the Intel context menu indeed restores my right click context menu speed on the desktop for my Vaio Duo. Intel's registry mod is here:

could someone who turned off the button effect on the touch-spot thing write here how to do it?

I've looked everywhere in the settings. It seems to get exited and click which then selects text as you are typing, and then you continue typing since you didn't notice and subsequently delete the text you just wrote. It's so f*cking annoying!

If I'm not mistaken, I think these are the steps:

    1) Hit the start button

    2) Start typing something like 'change mouse' or 'mouse.' Next, tap 'settings' on the charms bar. You should see a clickable 'change mouse settings' option in the list of settings.

    3) Once you're in the mouse settings, there should be an optical trackpad tab on the right side.

    4) From there, disable "tapping." I think that should turn off the button effect.

(In step 3, if the optical trackpad tab is not in the mouse settings, we'll need to install the optical trackpad driver from Sony's website.)

Hopefully, these steps should work. Did I get it right?

(I also figured I should sneak update about my keyboard in this post. The double letter / skipped letter issue still bugs me from time to time. If I perform "angry style" typing (i.e. hit the keys a bit harder than usual) then I don't see this issue very much...)

    hi hendhess

there's no 'tapping' or similar option in my mouse settings, I've been through the windows settings and the 'vaio settings' as far as I can tell, and no luck.
i'll look into downloading a driver then- open to other suggestions!
    thanks

    1. Go to the Windows Control Panel.
    2. Select Mouse
    3. When the Mouse Properties panel pops up, you should have a tab on the far right that says "Optical Track Pad". If you don't have this, then you may not have the proper driver installed. In which case, download the driver from the Sony website.
    4. Once you have the "Optical Track Pad" tab, select it. A new control panel will pop up with a check box right in the middle that allows you to enable or disable tapping. Make your selection and then click the OK button at the bottom of the control panel.

    Hi everybody,

do you notice moving horizontal lines on grey screens when not on full brightness (like this one:

    Résultats Google Recherche d'images correspondant à http://www.ledr.com/colours/grey.jpg

    )

I noticed some bleeding when the screen is black, maybe it's related.

By the way, I am selling the Duo 11 case, perfect condition used once, bought 50€, sold 40€. I live in Paris so if any one here lives there I can give it personnally. I don't know if there are MP's here, MP me if interested.

yes mine does this, I've moaned about it throughout this thread. I compared mine with a vaio duo in the states (mine is a uk version) and their screen did not flicker and they said they'd replace it had I bought it in America but that because it was a uk version they could not. I'm currently wrangling with sony uk for a replacement/repair as the screen is unusable above 20% brightness due to the flicker. If I were you I'd try and get it replaced...

Can I upgrade to windows 8 Pro from 8 vanilla. Tried installing on blank SSD but the Sony chip won't allow it to go to 8 Pro. Just installs as 8 vanilla again. I bought an 8 Pro disk before I realised that this would happen. I reinstalled the original setup from recovery and it's now back to original state. Is there a way around that chip?

It's the Intel Wireless display software, if you update with the latest driver from Intel that should sort it:

I have the exact same issue!! Spent 1.5 hrs chatting with a Sony Rep yesterday.

We had some success making the icons reappear (the ones that you are saying have disappeared) by editing the registry for autorotate (changing the 0s to 1s).

However, even with the icons returned to sight, the screen still does not rotate anymore.

VAIO Rep concluded that I should restore my laptop, which I did, and the issue is still not fixed.

I think that it started happening around the time that I installed the updates for the BIOS and the VAIO Control Center, which were supposed to improve autorotate functionality but instead made it disappear on my (and apparently yours too) Duo altogether.

All the updates did was add an "Autorotation is unavailable because you're using your PC as a laptop" pop-up when the DUO screen is in the open position.

But autorotation does not work even when the laptop is in tablet mode after installing the BIOS update!!!

Even the Sony Rep could not understand why!! Help please! :(

Hey everyone, I've been really considering the Duo for a while now but the one thing that is keeping me from jumping on it is the keyboard. I do a lot of writing so a keyboard is important to me. I was wondering what all of your opinions on it are. Is it too small? Does it get annoying? Would it be suitable for an author such as myself?
