Thanks for your replay.
Yeah, but I'm worried that they find nothing (and do nothing) because it's working at the moment..

i Have the Viao 11 since February, with no ghosting at all. However, the Vaio software continues to prevent me from a reasonable docking station.

Maybe there is more than one display manufacturer being used, this is normal practice to avoid shortages, normally you can find out the display manufacturer in the device manger under monitor/hardware id, but all it shows is some generic code.

Mitlov,
I tried to PM you, but this board doesn't seem to feature this function.
Have you ever encountered a situation when using your Duo 11, in which you would actually feel the i3 is too slow and where you were convinced that the i5's turbo boost would help? I mean things like extensive multi-tasking or running demanding apps. -
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
You have to have about 10 posts and then wait for the system to catch up before you can send pm`s , it`s to stop spammers.

Image burn-in on a show model at my local store. Looks terrible, only visible on a grey background though. -
Yes, if you look at EkhAngel's image, you'll notice a very faint ghost of the words "Vaio Duo" near the upper corner of the grey region.
-
I admit it really takes a close look to see that one, though... Captured with a Lumia 710 camera, but I think any camera would fail here, as the ghost is hard to see even by eye.
Still, it's there, and makes me wonder how the ghosting appears on your devices. I have checked whether the screen suffers from direct ghosting as people show on Youtube videos with faulty Retina screens, or so - meaning that there are instant shadows of items you just dragged out from the screen. I didn't notice any signs of SUCH defect on the unit presented above. Only the burn-in being a result of continuously displaying the same ad video at store, where "VAIO DUO" text has its fixed position in the left top corner.
Anyway, I'm having serious thoughts of actually giving up with the VD11, especially that the 13 with doubled battery time and better keyboard has just arrived to Poland and is being sold for 6000 zł (around $2000) for base i5/128/4, whereas the cheapest VD11 i3 I could get is 3750 zł. $2000 for a PC clearly exceeds my budget, but getting the 11 would be irrational. -
Your description of it as burn in is more appropriate. I don't actually see any ghost trails on my Duo. As to your Duo 13/11 dilemma, you could wait for the Duo 13 to drop a bit in price as other Haswell devices hit the market. Otherwise you could just go with the 11, and keep yourself happy with the knowledge that you saved a good chunk of cash. Besides, all Haswell machines currently seem to have an irksome WiFi bug, so the Duo 13 isn't perfect either.

Is there any way to use the pen buttons as right click?
-
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
Hold the bottom button and then touch the icon or screen you want to right click, the setting for the pen are in the "pen and touch" in the control panel under hardware

Hi all,
I just bought a VD11 and though a VD13 was just a little bit more expensive I would have being stretching a bit too much my budget. Anyway the VD11 looks awesome and the darn thing is fast.. very fast.
I write a lot of notes of just about everything (specially work/business related) and I want to start phasing out my Franklin Quest organizer (mind you I use one year after year since 1996) and go all digital by 2014. I have two questions.. on the VD13 promo video someone is writting on a blue sheet... is that app also included on the VD11? is that anytime note?Second question.. do you happen to know an app that resembles an organizer (but one in which you can actually write digitally)?
I have tried going all digital with an iPad and various apps but in all due honesty nothing beats by far the quickness on accesing a sheet of paper and writting away any thought. Not to mention the ability of going backwards in dates and looking for a specific written note. -

I cannot find the ArtRage Studio app, is the duo 11 suppose to have this?
-
Thanks Mike01Hu,
MS One Note works great for writting ideas with the digital pen, but I can't seem to find a way to use it like a journal (with dates). I might have to use Outlook task list in order to have a date function. Does the pen work with Outlook (haven't tried it to be sincere).

Now I'm doubting. I definetly saw Anytime Note (or something similar). I will check and let you know. -
According to this table Arte Rage Pro is included with VD11. I would need to check it out when I get home.

I found an update download for Arte Rage on the US duo 11 driver page, i installed it, and it installed fine no errors about the original not being there to update, but i still cannot find it?
I thought it might be an metro app and not an desktop one, but i still cannot find it.

ArtRage on Duo 11? - Sony Community
John. -
Sorry to hear John. I bought mine from a big chain store in Mexico (is called Liverpool). It has plain Win 8. You got it as build-to-order (fresh start) or from a MS store?
-
Mike -
. . . sorry, messed up the post!
-
I highly recommend MS Outlook 2013 with OneNote 2013 (which does date the pages, for your journal view). I am using both for six months with 11 and love it. The sylus works very well, and yes you can use the onscreen writing pad or keyboard with Outlook 13.
To the original post, I have been searching for years for an almost all digital solution, and have finally found it. all of my notes are now in Onenote, and I can get to them very easily by keyword search (even written words if I watch my penmanship) almost instantly. -
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
Hi what supplied or downloadable apps use the built in gps?
John. -
Thank you Mike. I will try your solution. Indest, sounds encouraging.. I actually have a copy of Office 365 (free 1 year) but I was hesitant to use it since I have Office 2007. Hopefully Office 2013 is the solution I'm looking for. I understand I would have to compromise certain things but is worth a shot.

Has anyone made any headway into getting Sony to provide ArtRage Studio Pro if you bought a fresh start computer, or are we screwed?
-
is there a duo 11 haswell in the future?
-
I'm quite sad to say that I'm very disappointed with my Duo11.
I really wanted to love it, and I still kind of love the idea of it
I had to send mine away after just a few weeks of ownership, and it was away for 6 weeks for a replacement keyboard.
I got it back and loved it again! The keyboard was perfect! But then a week or so later I started to see screen burn-in...
As soon as I noticed it, it really started to annoy me.
I took it back to the store again, and they had to send it away. Tomorrow (Tuesday) will be two weeks that it's been away.
So so far it's been away for a combined two months, of the three and a half months that I've owned it
I'm currently pushing for a refund, and if successful will be buying another macbook, as I've had no issues with them in the past.
All in all I love the Duo, but it just seems that the build quality is very low for a $2,000 NZD laptop. I would have expected much more for a laptop of this price from such a big manufacturer as Sony
Sorry for the long rant, but I'm just really disappointed -
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
I have had mine about a month and it`s used 16hrs a day, and the only problems is the battery life of 5hrs max with wifi on brightness lowest just browsing the web nothing strenuous like watching video`s, i have no screen burn, or ghosting and my keyboard is great.
John. -
I have the burn-in issues (though, that doesn't bother me), keyboard issues, and wifi dropout/reception issues. Last time I left it with Sony to repair, they had it for well over a month - I need to get the keyboard fixed - these missed keystrokes are so annoying - (I'm going to buy a separate wifi card for that issue) but dreading leaving it with Sony, because I know it will be ages before I get it back. If it were't for the keyboard/wifi, it would be a great machine! I guess there's no such thing as a perfect machine.

Still seems to be accompanied by the same 15.10.0.11 driver, but I'll give it a go to see if it helps. Thanks!

Same happened to me... first bought in Japan when it was released i never experienced burn in issue with other laptop or macbook.... using metro app won't be an issue but if doing photography job, architecture software...that is just a nightmare! when working on lightroom on a picture let's say 5-7 minutes and change to another one i can see the relics of the previous one!
Even on Autocad this is worst because i can see the tool panel printed on my screen for hours...
As suggested a member in earlier posts, i was thinking to get it fixed or replace but he kindly supposed that virtually every Duo 11 have this problem and reading the recents posts i believe he was true. Sony don't acknowledge or adress this issue, because they used old/cheap ips panels.
Same happened on my Xperia S smartphone, they suffered from bad yellow screen...
Back to the burn in issue, i notice the burn in is more and more persistent, to me it is getting worst over time that why news duo 11 don't show burn in issue for months. -
Hi everyone.
I've had my Duo 11 for almost 4 months and even though I try my best to keep it protected from dust, crumbles et al, it is extremely hard to keep it in a "satisfactory "level of cleanliness. So, I'd like to ask any tips or tutorials u guys use to clean your Vaios, specially the part underneath the sliding screen (seriously, sony must have made it not to be cleaned!)
Thanks for any help! -

WOO HOO this thread is alive again i thought it was dead, i have been hanging out at the duo 13 thread instead.
And yes mine is an dust magnet behind the screen, was thinking about blowing it out with some canned air.

I've owned this thing since Jan 2013, and I just got the burn in issue........
So sad, it really bothers me...... -
im glad i sold this POS months ago. i love sony premium laptop lineup, but the small keyboard, stupid tiny optical mouse pointer, the wifi issue just pissed me off.
now i see screen-burn-in.. -
I tested out this laptop for a little while and ultimately decided against it. I wanted it because to me, the screen looked a little bit better than the one on the Duo 13. There's just something about that Duo 11 screen; it's superior.
However, these issues came up while I was using it:
-Burn-in. Most noticeable on the Metro interface. I'd be using Chrome, then press the "start" button, and around the edges of the Metro interface I'd see "shadows" of Chrome.
-CPU whine. A lot of modern PCs have this problem and a lot of people don't notice or don't care, but this computer squealed like a dying mouse. It was a relief to put on headphones just so I wouldn't have to listen to that high-pitched squeal anymore.
-I had the WiFi drop out several times.
-And of course the keyboard had numerous missed keystrokes.
I like the Dolby audio thing and the stylus pen. And the screen minus the burn-in is still one of the nicest IPS screens I've seen. But the computer is ultimately a fail. Too bad. I still haven't found my perfect hybrid computer yet. -
Hi, i installed XBMC to Sony Vaio Duo 11. I connected laptop with HDMI to 42" LCD TV. When i start this program, it changes Hz from 60Hz to 24Hz. After i quit, it turns back to 60Hz again. I think, because of this Sony Vaio Duo 11 LCD is like below. Colors change. For this reason i can't use my laptop without TV. What can i do? Thanks.
-
I changed 60Hz-40Hz-60Hz-40Hz-60Hz simultaneously. After that, i saw an image in the screen. Then, i ran this pixel fixer: 100 - 16:9 - YouTube Now, it works

Just wondering if anyone has managed to upgrade their SSD without ruining the speaker grills. Its hte only thing preventing me going from 128gb to 256gb and using the 128 in my Vaio TT.
-
I addition, you can't use 128gb ssd from Duo to TT directly unless you have an adapter for it.
Duo uses mSATA SSD (look like a MiniPCIe card) while TT used microSATA 1.8" ssd.

May have to wait for Sony to take back my Duo for the burn in issue before going ahead as I'd lose my warranty.
Just as an aside regards storage options if anyone is out of space due to carrying media files around I bought a Seagate Wireless Plus 1tb wifi & usb 3.0 HDD and its been fantastic. 135 euro with a 10hr battery. Instead of upgrading all my gadgets internal storage they now all share the 1tb. Basically have a 1tb smartphone, Nook tablet, iPad and various Vaios. Worth checking out if people need a solution for carrying their movie and music collection with them -
With the official windows 8.1 around the corner, I wonder if it's possible to upgrade the recovery partition to the latest windows version. Do you think it will be possible to DIY or Sony will have to provide a way of doing it without voiding the warranty?

have i made a mistake buying this laptop? just picked up a used one for $800au a little worried i shouldnt have now
