My external battery order shipped today after over 3 weeks of waiting.
But I am still waiting for Duo i7 to be shipped.

First: Does anyone have dead pixels or bright dots on their screen?
second: Does the plastic inder and above the screen scratch that easily?
Third: Will this work with the duo 11? Amazon.com: Ultra Capacity High Quality 33600mAh Portable Charger External Battery Pack Power Bank Charger For Laptops and Notebooks - Compatible with Dell HP Sony IBM Lenovo Samsung Toshiba Acer Compaq Fujitsu Gateway Lition Asus: Cell Phones & Acce
Forth:Is there a thunderbolt input (symbol next to usb)?
Fifth: This is the BEST TabTop made so far imo. -

Small issue with charging the Duo. I have enabled battery care but the duo doesn't stop on 80%. Even on 100% the indicator still shows charging and the indicator on the duo is orange in color which indicates charging.

There are several system utilities on the internet like speccy which display the real windows key.

I've just purchased my first vaio ultrabook (i5/4gb ram/128gb ssd) and I have some problems with it:
1) on a blue background (please see the attached file) with the screen over 70% brightness i can clearly see a lot of thin horizontal lines (all the way from top to bottom)
2) from time to time the stylus become unresponsive and to "unfreeze" it i have to press the buttons on the side several times
3) on the bottom of the screen i have some minor light bleed in about 4 points, not really noticeable under normal use
Can somebody check with their unit if they have the above problems? Do you think i should exchange it?
Also i've noticed that in EU the onboard RAM is 1600Mhz vs US which is 1333Mhz. Is that a typo or there really are different memory types for each region?
-
I can see the lines too when viewed on my duo 11. Not really used the stylus so cant comment. -
i can also see the lines too and i have the same specs (i5, 4gb and 128 gb ssd) but havent used the stylus a lot
-
Thanks for your responses
What about light bleed at the bottom of the screen (where the windows button is). It is best seen when you reset the device and the VAIO logo appears during boot sequence. -
I have a Vaio Z and I don't see the horizontal lines so it must be a feature of the Duo's screen. As to the backlight bleed, I have a bit at the bottom of the Z's screen. With a screen of a brightness of 400nits, I think it's pretty difficult not to get a bit of backlight bleed which is visible on a black screen, whatever the machine.
-
No backlight bleeding at all here, luckily. -
My Duo i7 is now READY FOR SHIPMENT, and will be shipped tomorrow.
I will have it next day, hooray. -
I can hardly see the lines on my unit. They seem to be visible only at a high brightness level (60% or more), combined with a dark background.
Usually, my unit has the brightness set around 30%.
I have the same specs (i5, 4gb and 128 gb ssd) and I suspect the lines are a feature of Ntrig digitizer matrix. -
I have an annoying issue with the keyboard; often when I strike a key a little off-center, or maybe a tad too soft, it's not being received as a key press. On my work notebook (Dell) I never have this issue. Do others experience this as well? Could this be because of the large spacing between the keys, which I have to get used to?

Dear All,
Writing since purchasing an i5 unit (Vaio Duo 11), I can see that this machine as much promise. Almost everything is what I expected to receive, and do think this is good value for the money spent. However, I would really appreciate it if someone here could clarify whether there are drivers to enable pressure sensitivity on applications such as Paint Tool SAI, Zbrush and Adobe Photoshop.
My model isn't listed on a related driver found on Sony's website, being the svD1121Q2EB. It was a UK purchase, so this is probably why. Lack of pressure sensitivity on the stylus is really affecting my productivity in both work and studies, so I'd appreciate anyone's help to rectify this problem.
Otherwise my impressions of this machine are tremendous but I'd really like to resume my pursuit in digital art!
Many thanks,
Chris -
I also missed some keys when typing fast.
However, I am not annoyed by this issue.

Hi, now I got the VAIO Duo 11, too. I think it is a quite cool Ultrabook, but there's something wrong I suppose:
Sometimes (mainly when screen brightness is set below 70% or so), there is a very slight flickering, as if the refresh rate would be set too low (actuallly it is 60Hz). When I raise the brightness to 80 % or up, I cant recognize it anymore.
Second is, if screen brightness is lower than 70%, there are some horizontal lines which are rolling up and down the whole Screen (mainly when you got a grey- or blue-colored background, try out the grey X-Box-Music-App which is pre-installed), it looks as if you are filming a tv screen. Sometimes they are eve gone. I tried out several constellations of the energy management whithout success, i cant get rid of these lines.
Really, the lines and the flickering are very discrete but they are present. Do you have the same issue? What coud be the reason for it? Drivers (there are no display driver updates at the VAIO website...one idea for testing if the problem is caused by drivers is opening the bios which should have a blue Background. But i cant get into it by pressing DEL... -

Information on this forum is awesome. Definitely helped me in making my decision in buying one of these bad boys. Just ordered my i7 duo 11. Expected ship date is the 28th! Nooo. Such a long wait but excited to get it
Cheers,
Froi -
I received mine yesterday and did fresh install it with enough drivers and utilities.
I installed Video driver from intel website.
I am now running at 30% brightness but I don't see any flicker or lines. -
I don't know where you are but estimated ship date in the US is 1/9/2013.
I waited 2 weeks for my Duo.

Sorry, I don't get it right (perhaps as english is not my native language, perhaps because I worked 13 hours at night). What do you mean with "the effect varies depending on what screen I'm on as I can't see it at the moment but it's quite noticeable on other screens"?
Do you mean you can see the flicker and horizontal bars on some screens on your VAIO Duo 11 or on other laptops? Sorry, I'm a bit confused right now... -
When you hover over the batter icon in the tray, what does it say?
If Battery Care is on then when you hover it will indicate: "80% Plugged In, Not Charging"

Completely freezes like its stuck on a login script of some kind. The issue never happens with the primary account - the first account that I set up. It only happens with additional accounts. Also when the problem account is in this state, the "metro apps" do not appear on the start pae.
Problem is not fixed with deleting the account and recreating it, so I am in the process of testing with a fresh reinstall of the OS.
It's a big deal for me because I use two different accounts in order to run two different Dropbox sessions - one for personal and one for work. Pretty annoying problem because it works correctly in the beginning and then something gets corrupted and messes it up.
But I still love the laptop and am confident I can figure out what's going on. -
-
Either they keyboard "broke in" or I got used to its feel.
I had no missed keystrokes except for one spacebar stroke while typing this post. -
-
Me too now. It flickers at greyish portion but for just a few seconds.
However, I go to Intel Graphics Control Panel and saw refresh rate was 40Hz.
I changed to 60Hz, go back to Music, no more flicker. -
I'd hoped I would get more used to the keyboard but it's not really got any better for me as I still need to keep my speed down to avoid missed keystrokes, if I try to go faster I just get too many missed keystrokes.
John -
I connected two external monitors to the Duo: One on the VGA and one on the HDMI, in addition to the laptop display itself.
So, it does drive three displays just fine.

Seems like i see no flicker on freezing issues on mine i7, 256, 8gb

Guys, this is my first post.
duo 11 was launched in India last month and it went on sales 24-Dec, i had ordered a pre-sale piece and got it on 22-Dec this is the only model sony is selling here
i5, 4GB 1600MHz, 128GB SSD - 1,632USD.
i went to shop with great excitement to grab it, but there was big disappointment waiting for me. guess what, Indian model does not come with STYLUS.
I was completely shocked to hear this, so I was forced to buy the stylus as an optional accessory and the sony sales team does not even know this optional stylus will work on this duo 11.
I have told the guys to arrange the working stylus. only then will take the tablet. I hope they have not removed the N-trig receiver circuit from the tablet in the name of cost cutting and the stylus hopefully works.
sony is cheating Indian customers, their launch and news publication says duo 11 is touch and write tablet but they expect Indians to write it by their fingers i suppose.
so guys from India be cautious about this stylus when you are buying duo 11, we will have to wait and see what more surprises comes with Samsung ATIV Smart PC pro.

here is the sony's press release
Touch, write and go with slim new VAIO -
Well, that's a surprising move from Sony. As for the price, it's about the same in E.U. with 2 years standard warranty + 1 year extended.

hey guys,
my sony vaio 11 arrived just a few hours ago and I am trying at the moment to upgrad my ram (I´ve ordered it with 2 GB). I have read your thread and now I am wondering if it is possible to upgrade it to 4 or 6 GB ram? Thank you in advance for your help and merry Christmas -
You can't find ram on the market.
