For those that didn't see the newest "Current Notebook and Tech Deals", there is a $250 off coupon for the Z540 CTO on SonyStyle. The code is ZEDTZEDW and it expires on the 27th.

I specced out an entry level Z540 (P8400, 2gb, 120gb) and the final price was $1348.18 after tax, the coupon and 10% student discount. My dad's company can provide an additional 10% off. Too bad there's no coupon for the Z590 CTO.

Thanks for the coupon code, but what is "CTO" and how do you apply the 10% student discount?

Configure to Order, the ones where you choose the specs, not the preconfigured models.

You sign up for the student discount through their website, it's quite fast and simple, and then you log in and it will apply the discount automatically. (For CTO items it shows once in my cart, for preconfigured models it shows me the discounted price before I choose them.)

Do you know if this can be combined with the trade-in offer? If so, this becomes a pretty compelling deal for me.

I'm not sure, sorry, I haven't explored the details of the trade-in offer since I won't participate anyway. Look at the fine print and see if it says anything about coming that offer with any coupons/other offers? But since the coupon + student discount can be used together ... maybe.

Usually no, other members have tried to apply coupons/discounts along with trade ins but most of the time Sony says choose one or the other. Although, they will recycle the old unit for free either way  . It never hurts to call and ask though...

Potentially silly question: You must a student in order to register for Student Discount, don't you?

This coupon makes me all the more apprehensive about ordering a Z590 -- that's interesting that they didn't extend it out to that model (since it's presumably higher-margin anyway).

I'm already stacking discounts like mad trying to get the thing down to a good price. :)
