    Hi everybody,

A friend is having problems with his FS-570. He can’t boot (even in safe mode) and, apparently, lost his set of recovery disks.

The recovery partition is intact. My guess is install a fresh copy of ANY Windows, install the Sony Recovery Utility and generate a new set of disks. Then, use the new disks to recovery the notebook.

Will this procedure work? What package is needed to install Vaio Recovery Utility? I was unable to find this application at specific model page:

    http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNFS570&UpdateType=Everything&SelectOS=7

    Regards.

Why not run the recovery if it is intact and working? If it is Vista recovery, you can open notepad in tools and transfer files (if ya wanna back up stuff) in the open/browse box to whatever media you want to connect. Then proceed with the recovery.

    Hi Daelin,

The main partition didn't contain any important data and can be deleted or formatted. But is possible run recovery without the media or booting OS?

    FS-570 comes with XP Home.

    Regards.

If you press F8 before windows starts loading it should take you to
a screen where you can select which partition to boot from. You may
be able to select the recovery partition.

press f10 when you turn on the machine during the vaio booting logo in order to enter the recovery mode. you can't just install a fresh copy of Windows, and install the Sony Recovery Utility to generate a new set of disks. it won't work, and the recovery utility can't be download from anywhere on the internet as far as i know, the recovery utility actually generate the dvds from a hidden partition that content all the system and software provided by sony originally, the utility don't correct any files from the system you current at like the C: drive. you can always press f10 during start up to enter recovery mode as long as you did not format or fdisk your hidden partition.
