I was wondering what everyone else think about those stickers on our laptop.
I had total of 7 stickers when I bought it, yeah 7!!!, and I took everything off except Vista, Centrino stickers.
POLLS!
-
depends on which, i only leave the metallic ones because i find them a pain to remove..
-
I haven't received mine yet, but will probably remove all of them. Only a blu-ray sticker and maybe the 1080p one may look 'nice'. But the rest definitely doesn't look sweet. And what I know about the 1080p one is that it won't be sitting in the corner of your Z, so that one has to go anyway as well.
just my 2 cents... -
I didn't get a discount and none of the companies are paying me for advertisement, so I say take them off.
-
The carbon fiber seems to lend itself to the complete removal of sticker adhesive. It takes awhile, but rub it off.
-
First thing I do when I buy any electronics is take the stickers off. I hate being an unpaid billboard.
-
so are any of you guys being payed by sony? you guys have VAIOS written on you laptop..
its not about being a billboard, its about showing what you paid for.. lol -
Well said! If you buy a Ferrari you don't de-badge it specifically because you want to show off you got a Ferrari while the other person has a Ford Focus.
-
way too many on the Z, gotta take em off
the stickers on the FW doesnt bother me
keeping the stickers on to "show off" is sooooo first-time laptop buyer stuff
-
I leave on the smaller OS, CPU, Bluetooth, and even the stupid Energy-star stickers. But I've seen laptops with huge 3x5" stickers listing all the machine's features.. something like that would definitely have to come off.
Unless somebody's looking over my shoulder, who cares if I'm advertising Intel to myself? =) -
The VAIO logo is part of the design, the stickers OTOH are definitely not and unlike the VAIO logo you can get rid of the stickers. I can't believe anyone actually would think those horrible horrible stickers make the laptop look better
-
get shut!!!! i take em all off, because they annoy my palms (maybe i use my laptop too much??)
-
im not saying it looks better, im just saying that it the logic behind "being a billboard" was unfounded..
i agree, i'd rather not have stickers cause they tend to accumulate dirt and look stupid -
My SZ had (on the palm rest) 5 stickers.
1 "dlna cetified" (whatever that is)
1 Centrino
1 Windows Vista
1 NVidia
1 Everywair (WWAN)
I took the "Everywair" sticker off because it started peeling of when cleaning and was too large.
The little ones that just tell you which companie's hardware is in your laptop may stay and wear down by themselves for me. -
Yes, that is my main reason also. However, I see no reason to advertise products I use. I avoid clothing with big logos, etc. If my car came tricked out with a million stickers like NASCAR, I'd be pissed.
A basic product logo is OK, since it is generally harmonious with the overall design. If the VAIO logo was a cheap-looking sticker, I'd take it off.
-
Take them all off. The Intel and Windows stickers are usually the most difficult, as their metallic skin is very stiff and the glue is really strong.
-
The VAIO and Sony are printed nicely on the chasis. The $1 stickers just takes away the elegance of a $2500 laptop. I took mine off, and it feels nice to not have stickers rubbing on my palm. Plus, I definitely think it makes the Vaio look more classy and elegant without bright and shiny stickers glaring on the side of the computer that doesn't go well at all with the rest of the laptop.
-
I take them off because the product designers did not intend them to be on the notebook. It's just that the marketing department made some deal with the 3rd party vendors to whore out that space.
We get it. Your product is chock-full of technology. We don't care. We just want the product to look nice, to get us to the Intertubes, and to not breakdown one day after the warranty expires.
On a beautifully designed device, it's just an eyesore. De-badge whenever possible.
-
I removed all the stickers from my FW. All 9 or 10 of them.
It took about 25 minutes and a little elbow grease with a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol to dissolve the residue.
Why do I need a sticker saying DLNA?? That is just stupid. -
I'll trade you my mint Energy-star sticker for your DLNA one! =)
But seriously, it's all about personal preference. I think any PC, desktop or notebook, looks naked without a branded case badge or two.
I'll probably peel off my Vista sticker when I replace it with a Windows 7 one. -
I can't stand the stickers. I know what is in my machine, and I don't care if others don't ... they clutter up the area and cheapen it to me. Mine would come off ASAP, but I would be a little concerned about scratching the pretty palm wrest.
To AFD: Do you think when a full fledged Windows 7 releases older notebooks would support the switch (driver wise and all)? Not a Vista fan really, but I'll stick with it since it's coming with the laptop ... definitely watching the buzz around 7. -
They way it looks now Windows 7 will be an upgrade of Vista.
Similar design.
Thus if you get a top range notebook it should work fine.
(maybe a little slower than Vista unless its more optimized) -
Not sure. I've been wondering that myself. Last I read, 7 will be using the same Vista kernel and driver model:
"Windows 7 is not a whole new OS but an evolution of Vista, and will reuse the old kernel and device driver model. That means it would use the kernel in its newer state, when Microsoft updated it with Vista's first service pack. It also means existing device drivers for Vista will work on Windows 7."
From 9/12/2008 article at Internetnews.com (Page 2).
Sounds good to me, but we won't know for sure until the first 7 beta is released sometime in December. -
IMO, leave them on. They sometimes leave some nasty residue if theyr taken off. I personally like all the stickers, except the one advertising the larger capacity battery
-
How would you take them off without leaving a mark? I don't want to use alcohol... any other ideas?
-
Just use the side of a credit card and nudge one corner up. From there you just need to peel it off. DO NOT USE a knife or anything that can scratch the surface.
Once off, you can use a dab of isopropyl alcohol or "goo" remover and clean off any residue. If you're real careful and methodical removing the decal then you may not have any residue at all. -
Take it all off/Everything must go/etc.
I'm not a huge fan of stickers, so the first thing I did when I got my notebook was whip out my wallet, take out a card, then peel away. Now it's clean and pretty.
-
I've come to realize that the uglier the laptop is, the bigger the stickers they've put on it
Stickers no matter how cheap-looking can hide - and in fact do a very good job at hiding - an ugly a** design, but the Sony Vaios are anything but ugly, in fact most of them look pretty darn elegant. Just like noone in their right mind would keep stickers on a MacBook Pro noone should keep stickers on a Sony Vaio. As for the "nakedness", I don't mind it, in fact I even prefer it since it shows more of the laptop and less of the "buttons and switches"...
