It is my friend's laptop but he says when he plugs in a/c adapter, the LCD monitor sparks..

Is this motherboard problem? And can this be fixed? Thanks!

If it's under warranty, shut it down, unplug everything, and send it in for repair.

Unfortunately, it is out of warranty so he asked me if there is a fix for it.. don't think clean install will do right?

then you best posting question in the Sony section.

When you say LCD sparks, you should explain a little by what you mean. Does it physically cause an electrical spark, etc.

Will do. I asked again and he said the power goes off when he plugs A/C. It could possibly be battery or problem with the plug..?

Since this is a Sony Vaio question unrelated to Thinkpads, I will move it to the appropriate section so people more familiar with the laptop in question can help out. Let me know if you want to have it moved to the Hardware section, though.
