Does everyone of you know if they sell the SZ160 with a US international Keyboard or with an Asian Keyboard? or is it possible to choose between the 2? Because I'm gonna order it from honk kong as I live in Belgium and have friends who lived their, it would be 800$ cheaper for me (and it wont came out before one month in Belgium..)...

Thank you in advance for helping me!

ps: sorry for my bad english, its not my native language..

i don't think the one from sony style Hong Kong is SZ160

    i believe it's SZ18GP/C
    http://vaio-online.sony.com/prod_info/vgn-sz18gp_c/index.html

main differences between SZ18GP/C and SZ160 is:
not XBRITE screen, but CLEAR BRIGHT? [but the screen still looks fantastic @ the store for display]

    Default ram is 512mb, while it's 1GB i think for sz160

    Hard drive is 80gb, while it's 100gb for sz160

i went there yesterday [the sony store in hong kong] and the keyboard looks the same... [i haven't seen the sz160 in person ever] but the keyboard seems ok [no asian characters on it if you were wondering]

Thank you for your fast answer!

yep I saw that the name was different in Honk Kong, but the sell a SZ18GP/C with 1,5 gigs of ram. Which is all I need..
Could you tell me what is the difference between the xbrite and the clear bright?? isn't it that its just a different name for the same screen?
Does the SZ18GP/C have the LED screen? you know that new things that sony made which consume less power?

If the sony store is not too far from you house, could I ask you to give me the price of the SZ18gp/C with 1,5 gigs of ram? (or 1 gig or ram in a single piece : 1*1024 and not 2*512...)
with the T2400 processor (or T2500)
and all the stuffs taht the sz160 has..
(ps: 80 gigs for the HD is not a problem at all...)

That is a very good news that there is no asian character on the keyboard!

but now I'm a bit confused with the screens? :S

about the screen thing... i have no idea, but it looks fantastic anyway...

and yea the SZ18GP/C uses the white LED backlight

with default settings: the price of the laptop is HKD 16980 [2,188.46 USD]

for a 1.5gig ram (adding an extra 1gb ram stick) [if you buy from sony and they put it together for you]
you have to add an extra of HKD 1800 / 231.997 USD
(at least according to the sony style guy i asked yesterday)

for a 1gig ram (adding an extra of 512 ram stick)
you have to add an extra of HKD 800 / 103.110 USD

also, you need to add 490 HKD / 63.1503 USD for a 1 year international warranty [which you cannot extend]

and the original package includes a 1 year local (hong kong) warrnaty
[which you can extend, but no point... since you don't live here]

ok thanks for those explenation, then it is no so good for me to buy it in HK... Because I absolutely want a 3 years international warranty.. Then I'll have to see what is the best price in Belgium... and at the moment for the sony vaio sz1xp/c, which is the equivalent of the sz160, its arround 2500 euros on sonystyle... it means 3011 dollars....

anyway thank you for your comment!

I ordered mine as well. Thank god I did it quick, because right afterwards they were all sold out!

I got the 1.5GB SZ18GP/C. I've done a lot of comparisons so far and I'm pretty confident that thi sis indeed the premium version (the weight, the white LED and other details lead me to believe so).

What is the difference between the Hong Kong SZ 160 and the North American version? I wouldn't mind getting a Asian keyboard, but what is an Asian keyboard? Does it have Chinese texts on it or something or make it easier to use pinyin? I'm learning Chinese right now and I definitely wouldn't mind getting something that would help me out. Thanks.

I just ordered my SZ18 today...the lady said they did have them in stock i dont know if this was a tactic to make me stop hassling her but i think its safe to assume from 9th march they will start distrubuting.

SZ18 is the premium model so does have the same basic casing of the SZ160. The only thing that is different is the config such as having lower RAM and HD space.

I missed out on ordering the "special" with 2GB added....so ordered just the base model. It is cheaper to buy RAM outside from sony anyway so worked out ok

Fingers crossed it arrives by the 20th of march as ill be back outta there by then.

I was looking at the China Sony Style site and I noticed that the SZ18 on the china site has the nice carbon fibre cover :( But it's a 2.16 unit and selling at just under 30,000 RMB (dunno what that is in HKD). Does anyone know if they will be selling one with CF cover in HK anytime soon? I love that CF cover so dam much!!

I don't think they're gonna sell that cover [on SZ] in hong kong...

even in China, they're [according to the ad?] selling a limited quantity of them (500) but that might be a lie? lol~~

but i did see that kinda cover on the TX though (in hong kong)

    30,000 RMB => 3732USD!!!

Who says China is cheap. That is more than the 4000CHF for the model in Switzerland.

I think the price is too sharp for that model...even though I believe it's a 2.16 Duo Core... I am glad I got the SZ18, I think it's quite well priced in Hong Kong. Which model of the TX got the CF cover? Do they sell it from SonyStyle HK or is it a "water" product?
