OK try this hacked U2711 INF I pushed it to 40Hz, if that works then maybe we can push it a little higher. Don't expect to go much higher than this, but I guess it depends on the HDMI chip in your Asus. When I push the clock to high on my VAIO the screen flashes on and off, like it keeps loosing sync.

hmm, my resolution changed from 1920x1080 to 1920x1200. But i can't go higher :/

maybe we can ask psyq321, how to change the driver into an EDID block ?!

The driver has an EDID block in it, are you meaning to say DTD?
I really think you aren't going to be able to go higher than 35Hz.

    you still looking in here?
could you please make one last driver for me with 2560x1440 @ 60hz. no matter whether it works or not.
I only need the EDID block, actually. would be great.

    thank you

    Thanks.

Can you look at the DVI end of the cable? Which one does it look like:

I checked the connector - it is DVI-D,

However, this does not make any difference as the HDMI->DVI cable is most certainly using single-link DVI pins, and the DVI-D pins are just there for aesthetics.

This is because HDMI->dual link DVI done properly is far from trivial, as HDMI signalling requiring dual-link DVI speeds is not compatible with DVI-D data bus, you would need to perform signal conversion, which means you would have to have the custom ASIC doing it.

Me too. I just got my Z V2 and Dell U2711 and I'm wondering since I have the PMD if it'll work at 60Hz...

Same here. Running Z2 + U3011 in 2560 at 35Hz. Must admit that i dont quite like the "jigger" when i open and close windows etc. The U3011 is connected directly to the HDMI port of my PMD - would it be possible to make a U3011 inf file that were set to 60Hz?

^That would be the default "inf" and it won't work due to the single link speed port you are running the monitor off of.

    All,

I've recently purchased a Z2 and as a software developer am very interested in getting my Samsung SA850 monitor to display at its 2560x1440 as well.

I have followed the instructions of determining the raw EDID as

Which has a single 2560x1440 line in it, which parses as

I then created a modeline of that calculated DTD, wrote to registry and rebooted.

As for cable, I have this Amazon Basics HDMI - DVI cable.

All that having been said, what I have found is that even after this process, 2560x1440 does not show up in the list of resolutions at all. It still shows a maximum of 1920x1080. (I have tried this without the PMD, and with, just for fun).

Interestingly, if I either use the DTD for the Dell U2711 you all have or, if I change the timing only in MY DTD to be the lower timing of the U2711 (just change the pixel clock to match, then write the DTD), then 2560x1440 does show up as an option. However, choosing it, the monitor goes into "Unsupported Mode" status.

So, what do you all think? Am I fairly screwed because my monitor only seems to support 59Hz at 2560x1440 and there's no way to get HDMI/DVI to do that? Any other ideas? Think the cable is in any way a limiting factor? The cable does work to go from DVI to HDMI from another PC to a plasma TV I have (running at a lowly 720p), so I know at least that the cable functions in some capacity.

I was considering trying this Sewell cable but I don't know if that would get me any different result.

The Samsung only has two DVI and one DisplayLink inputs. Would the VGA ports on either the Z or the PMD be able to be converted to DVI at 2560x1440?

Thank you for reading this and any input (pun!) you may have.

Power Media Dock (TM), it's a proprietary external graphics/optical disc drive unit that can be hooked up to the current gen VAIO Z (Z2).

@ComputerCowboy: tried your .inf for the U3011 and it works great when the monitor is connected via HDMI to the PMD. But when i connect the monitor to the built-in Intel gfx on the labby, I can no longer get 2560 after installing your .inf? Am i missing something?
I am running a setup of 2 x 20" in portrait and the u3011 in landscape mode - and since the Intel does not support portrait mode, i have to connect the U3011 to the Intel - but only thing missing is native resolution :-(

Sorry - forgot to mention that in my previous post; it's not the VGA port i'm using - it's HDMI.

    DELL U2711 2560x1440 HDMI-HDMI

Thanks for all helpful information in this thread.

I have a Mac Mini 2011(running windows 7) with AMD Radeon HD 6630M. And thanks to this thread ive successfully managed to run two 2560x1440 screens. One thrugh DisplayPort(Samsung SA850T) and that one just worked plug n play ofc since its DP.
And one thrugh HDMI(Dell U2711) which i got working after these steps:

    1. Download and install Radeon Custom Resolution Manager Radeon Custom Resolution Manager - ATI - Graphic-Displays

    2. When you open RCRM in the 16:9 box. You click +(add) and add 2560x1440 35hz

    3. Then click save and reboot youre computer.

    4. Download awharton´s EDID monitor inf file (Driver for DellU2711). You can find it on page 4 of this thread. http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/602724-success-2560x1440-support-new-vpc-z2-dell-u2711-4.html#
    Filename: u2711_35hz.zip

    5. Now extract it. Go to Device Manager>Monitors>Your Monitor. Right click and choose "Update driver Software"

    6. Click Browse my computer for driver software. And this is IMPORTANT. Dont choose the folder that your .inf file are directly. Insted you click "let me pick a list of device drivers on my computer". Then you click "Have Disk". And then you choose the .inf file that you downloaded.

If everything is correct. When you now check your device manager the name on the monitor should say"Dell U2711 (Dela056 Override)"

    7. So now just rightclick youre desktop and choose "Screen Resolution" and its shoud be there. Otherwise the computer may need a reboot.

    Enjoy !

So is it confirmed that the Z2/Z3 will not work with the Samsung SA850 at native res?

Has anyone tried the Z2 or Z3 with the new Dell U2713HM and U2913WM monitors?

They are 27", 2560x1440 and 2560x1080 (super wide!) respectively, and both cheaper than the U2711.

So it's 2013 and WQHD panels are getting more common.
I'm about to get a DELL U2713H and want to make it work with my Z21 + PMD. As far as I understand I need some special DTD data for this monitor.

Does anyone know where to get this?
Does anyone have any experience with the U2713H + Z2?
Any other tipps? I'd much appreciate any insight.

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to crack Vaio VPCSA3BGX bearing Radeon 6630M to make it work in 2560x1440 resolution mode through HDMI?

I recently hooked up my Vaio to brand new Samsung S32D850T and graphics refuses going beyond 1080p. This is Q42011 Vaio and I cant believe graphics driver does not support 1440 res.

    Please help, thanks in advance.
