I have a Sony SZ340. Basically this laptop comes with two settings toggled by a switch at the top of the keyboard. "Stamina" mode utilizes the Intel Graphics Card. "Speed" mode utlizes the nVidia 7400 card. I always have the computer running in Speed mode.
Last night, the power went out and the computer turned off. I woke up this morning and turned it on. It booted in Stamina mode regardless of the switch toggled on Speed. I've tried downloading and reinstalling the Sony Shared Libraries, Sony Utilities, and the Sony nVidia driver for my laptop model.
I'm unable to start/load the computer in Speed mode, the light indicates Stamina regardless of the switch's location.
Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Mhmmm,
Not good - Is your computer still under warranty? This sounds definitely like a hardware problem. Don't bother with software, software isn't in charge of switching graphic cards. If you just want to see, burn the recovery disc set and do a recovery if you've not done so yet. This will eliminate the software factor if it continues to give trouble after the recovery. -
It may be worth while removing the cover and trying to switch it manually just encase the switch cover is broken (this happend to me not so long ago) - if it is out of warranty yo may want to try this before you go down any other routes?
The keyboard will have to be removed (ensure you remove the screw on the base - in the middle just back form battery) and then the entire speaker/ button board unscrews (4 screws under battery) and then unclips. Its all shown in the service manual.
The SZ service manual is available here: http://home.comcast.net/~nw_systems/vgnSZ.pdf
(I take no credit for the link is available in multiple posts in this forum). -
The computer is two years old. So the warranty is dead.
I'll give the manual switch a try this weekend. Looking online, looks like the graphics cards is ~$200. Hopefully I don't have to go down that route. I'll update upon my progress later this weekend.
