I did a clean install of XP on my VGN-Z540, which I bought in December.
I installed all the drivers and everything, everything was good for about 2 months.

Starting last week, my laptop would randomly lose connection to the internet. and give me a message saying "Physical Wireless Adapter Not Found". I would restart, and it would work again.

I found out the cause of problem (I think)— every time I MOVED my laptop, the laptop would act up again in the same way. Mostly it happens when I move the notebook, but there has been times when I haven't touched it, and I get the same error

The wireless switch light acts up too. Sometimes when I am online, the wireless switch light is off, sometimes it's on, and vice versa.

    Anyone had this problem before?

I haven't dropped it or anything, I've kept it sitting on my desk since day 1.

The card might be bad - i had this same issue on the WLAN minicard in my old dell - i found reseating the card to its socket inside the PC helped int he early stages but after several months it got to the point where it was droping out several times before lunch time.

Avoid all that and have the card replaced, im not entirely sure how the internals of the Z series vaio are layed out but i suspect it could be a mini card in a socket similar to RAM.

Call Sony and have the machine looked at, lie to them and say it drops out at least 20 times a day you have the latest drivers installed and you ahve already reinstalled windows - tell them it drops out regardless which routing device or gateway its connected to wirelessly.

    Good luck !
