    Just making sure before I try anything too crazy with the comp, this would work for the hybrid graphics and everything such as HDMI would work and such? And is the march 2014 nvidia driver you are referring to the GEFORCE 335.23 driver?

    Sorry to bug you about this, just want to make sure everything works correctly. BTW, I have the sony vpcz1 (model number vpcz1390x)

    Probably nobody can answer this, but does anyone know what drivers I need to install to get miscast working in 8.1? I think an updated WiFi and Intel display adapter?

    Does the bios hack and new drivers allow for the use of both the HDMI and the VGA port? I use both from time to time.

    I have the same problem - stuck on the install screen. How did you get around this?

    Stuck where exactly? After you disable signature verification it installs properly.

    My system froze on the install of the video drive - but after a reset - and making sure my wifi was turned off - the Andrew drivers installed just fine.

    Quick question about windows 8.1 - chrome - and overall graphic quality.

    Seems like Chrome is not as clear or as crisp as I once remember when I ran Windows 7. I have some things like magnification mentioned as a reason why. But what is the fix? Chrome on my Z now looks almost slightly blurry. Hard to explain - whatever the case it is not as crisp and clear as I once remember my Z being.

    The same happened to me. Didn't find a good solution. Back on windows 7.

    Think I found the solution - after doing this - things look MUCH BETTER!

    he issue is with DPI scaling. For any program that gives you blurry font, use the following steps:
    Right-click on the program's icon -> Properties -> Compatibility -> "Disable display scaling on high
    DPI settings".
    Then close the program and restart.

    2 quick questions:

    1. I just noticed that many of the download links point to a /32BitDowgrade/ folder. Should those of us on 64bit OS be using different links?

    2. Are the Sony utilities (esp. the shared library) model/series/hardware specific? Can we try using newer versions that are for a different model but made for Windows 8/8.1?

    Looking forward to a guide for Windows 8.1 update 1.

    I have the same question. I am contemplating doing the bios hack to get the newer games running and other games such as starcraft 2 and diablo 3 running a bit smoother. Did you obtain any answer anywhere already?

    I'd say the last question can be answered by ComputerCowboy in the hacked bios drivers thread. I would assume that it works fine, at least it does in W7 :)

    @mfpreach

    Guess You mean MIRACAST? AFAIK this is called Intel WiDi and needs certain WiFi cards that support that function. I found it rather useless ...

    @anytimer

    it has always been and still is a trial and error with Sony specific utilities on "unsupported" VAIO's. I have done this many times on machines since the ancient C1, SR1K or even X505. While it surely is a good idea to have the most recent version of all those programs it turns out that not always they will do what they have to do on an older model. If I were You I'd try the versions supplied here and only if it turns out not to work try newer ones. One specific candidate for trouble has always been VAIO Network (and it's predecessor)...one would never knew which version will work and setting up a clear procedure with the right versions has been a pain in the last years.

    Most of the software is 32 and 64 Bit but if necessary surely need to go for the 64-bit Version. I wonder who is using 32-bit on a Z1 anyway ;)

    Timiboy: I've noticed that the laptop retains the wifi settings, so if you are not going to be changing those settings (e.g. I keep both wifi and bluetooth enabled permanently) you can uninstall the VAIO network setting utility once you've made those changes. The settings persist despite formats and OS reinstalls so I don't bother installing the VAIO network stuff at all. But if at some stage I wish to change the settings, e.g. 2.4 and/or 5 GHz band, I'll have to install, change settings, then uninstall it.

    Interesting approach...but why would You uninstall it if it works? I use it since I have 3G as well. When a WLAN is available I keep the 3G Modem off to save battery.

    It works, but it is also quite irritating, asking me to set up connection profiles and security zones, etc., all of which is built into Windows anyway. I did not need to be asked/reminded/nagged 20 times a day.

    There are three power plans, and each plan has settings for plugged in or battery. That's a total of six plans. If you want your laptop to behave exactly the same way every time, you have to make the same setting in six different places.
