Ive don a fresh Windows vista install. Because what sony did is very lame by installing all that crap.

    but enough about that.

    I'v one single problem.

Device manager tells me there is a unknown device.

It is device SNY5001. I have found out that it has something to do with the fn button and it is a sony device.

Ive download the driver packages from the vaio link webite.

Afterwards i installed the utilities. But still it doesnt work

i can change the volume, i also see onscreen text. but not with brightness, monitor switching or stand by fn+f12.

I hope someone did also a fresh install and knows the solution.

There is some guide/tutorial about fresh install under windows, but that document doesnt say anything about this device sny5001.

    PLeas help me, thanks.

There are drivers and auxilary apps you need to get the system to fucntion correctly. The order that you use to install these is every bit as important as what you install. See my signature line below for detailed instructions on a clean install on an FZ model.

MOST, but not all of them are on the site. Again, read my instructions it is very specific as to what you can find where. Do you still have the Recovery Partition on your hard drive? If so you can still create the recovery DVD set. You just need to use the recovery partition to restore your machine back to its out of the box state and then make the DVD set.

If you have already tried to install drivers on a clean Vista install, you are going to need to start over anyway. The sequence in which you install things is EXTREMELY important. So you might as well do it right, and go back to the out of box state, make the DVD's and proceed.

solution was very easy, everything is working fine now.

    i started windows update.

and there was an sony update. so i installed it. And the unknown device syd5001 or something wasnt any longer a unknown device.

Then i installed the sony shared library, and the sony event service.

    now everything works fine.

how wonderful. no need for those @#$@$# backup dvd's or other crappy sony software.

No, no one here can help you and even asking them to runs counter to the rules of the forums here. You are asking someone to make a copy of copyrighted material. That can quickly get you banned from the forums.

You can order recover disks directly from Sony.
