    Hello,

I'm trying to upgrade my VAIO Z540 from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7, but I am afraid of the incompatibility of the internal parts with the new system.

So, I would like to inquire if anyone has tried before and what results?

Also for the drivers, because I tried to search for it but unfortunately I have not found it. So I'll be grateful if you could help me to find them.

    Greetings while awaiting a response

Vista drivers/software works in Windows 7. You'll have no troubles upgrading to Windows 7.

My understanding is that the hybrid video driver for VISTA does not allow for brightness control in Speed mode in Windows 7. We are waiting for a hybrid video driver from SONY that is compatible with Windows 7. Other than that, everything should work fine with Windows 7 and the VISTA drivers.

    Is this not correct?

Correct the backlight on the Nvidia GPU (Speed mode) is not currently adjustable in Win7 with the Vaio Z. You can switch to the Intel GPU (Stamina) adjust the backlight and then switch back though. Not the best solution. Nvidia or Sony look to be the only ones that can fix this issue.

Note: this means no backlight dimming or other backlight power saving features built in to Win7 on SPEED.

    Hi Naif824,

I ran the Windows 7 Compatability test this evneing on my Sony VGN z590 and most of the things seemed ok. It appears that when upgrading the finger print reader, the Novatel Expediae (Sprint Card) Modem and Status Port , Rioch Memory Stick Host controller, have some issues. It says to run Windows Update after the install to make the device compatible. Have you upgraded your machine yet? Any issues? I use my sprint card daily so that not working is not an issue and i rarely run my computer in speed mode so that isn't an issue either i.e. dimming the screen.

Any advice or tips would be grateful as i want 7 on my machine.

    thanks

    DS

I went to install Windows 7 tonight and it asked me to uninstall the Intel Proset Wireless before installing windows 7. I can't seem to find a method to uninstall this and afraid to upgrade to Win 7 and lose ALL internet connectivity. Any ideas on this? At this point, my two conderns are now wifi control and my Novatel Wireless Card which appears to have been resolved by the download that ngvuanh posted above.... I'm running 32 bit btw.

    Any advise would be helpful.

    thank you,
    Damon

z540 user here running win7 64bit, after upgrading to win7 I can only use my Intel graphics card. In device manager I have my Intel showing, and the Nvidia is shown as "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter". Anyone able to help?

install one of Nautilus's drivers from this forum, or use UniExtract on the Nvidia drivers from sony's http://esupport.sony.com site for the z690. DL their .exe, use uniextract to put it in a folder, then go to the device manager and update driver, and point it to that folder. it should install.

I appreciate the response, but couldn't get it working. If you could provide alittle more information I would be grateful. I tried using Uniextract and it had errors for each of its different unpacking methods. I don't know what Nautilus's drivers are or where to find them.

i didn't have any issues with uniextract and its first (default) method. or if it did, it unpacked enough to install the drivers.
