I went to check out the sony esupport website for my model number to see if sony put official drivers for Windows 7.
What I get on the support page is
"The hardware configuration of this model does not meet the minimum system requirements needed to run and provide the full experience of the Windows® 7 operating system.
Windows® 7 installation is not recommended and Sony will not be providing Windows® 7 drivers for this model.
* Have another question?
Windows® 7 provides great new features to enhance your computing experience.
Visit our online store SonyStyle® where you can choose from a wide variety of VAIO computers that come with Windows® 7 preinstalled. "
What is this? A laptop I bought a year ago with duo cpu p8600 @2.40GHz and 4 GB ram. Will not run windows 7 adequately? Thats funny because I have been running Windows 7 since the early betas and currently run the 64bit RC.
This will probably be the last sony product I purchase, unless they start showing real support and not just trying to sell me another product, I already own enough sony products.
disappointed and frustrated,
Michael

This crap has been happening to a lot of us who thought Sony would do the right thing and release drivers for some of their older models.
Somehow I am not surprised that they would do this, as it is Sony we are talking about here.
I am glad that I mostly use my Thinkpad as Lenovo supports models that are more than 3 years old (before Vista came out) with drivers and utilities that will run in Windows 7 -
Everything else works.
This is my second VAIO and it seems like they just drop off support of their laptops as soon as they are out. Their update utility wouldn't even recognize my current computer a month after I got it.
I think I'm going to try out a different brand next time I go laptop shopping. -
Same exact problem here with SZ model. Very upset
But same conclusion is wont buy from sony again. -
I sent an e-mail to Sony Canada.
Good Morning! I do not understand why this model is not eligible for windows 7. I bought last September 2008, I spent $2000 and now I can not updated. When windows vista is very bad. Please, reconsider it and give us the necessary drivers for this model. Thanks! Regards!
and this is your e-mail...

agree with you, guys. Sony sucks!!! Don't do buy their products agains.

you all should call Sony and complain.
Seems like buying a Sony is like buying a Mac: all the high prices and style, but none of the high-quality, in-house software that makes buying a mac worth it.
