Yeah, you probably have a lot of processes running. YWE (or whatever widget program you use) is probably using a fair amt.

My MSI 1022 is only using 42mb with PPT, Word, Firefox, Live Messenger, Outlook and firewall/VS/NHC.

It can be done, you just have to cut the fat (and startup programs)

42 MB would be nice to have. Right now I have about 330 with nothing in the applications. Around 370MB with 10 tabs on firefox

Please share the helpful information on how to cut down on this stuff. :D

Just tried this and got it to be around 313MB with 52 processes. So I saved around 17MB so thats good. Is there anything else I can do to save more?

    Thanks!

What you can do is just take the regular screenshot w/ the print screen button and then open that up in paint then save it and then use the attachment button when posting.

BTW Archie, I still cant believe that you can get 42MB when using all those programs.

extend the windows task manager so that all processes are listed then select the window. press alt+prt sc to create a copy of the image then go to ms paint or any other imaging application and press ctrl+v after you've created a new image.

Actually i think it was ttupa that said 42 was doable.... i'm at about 80. The big hog for me is firefox... if you do the tweak i mentioned earlier in this thread, your memory usage will decrease significantly when firefox is minimized... mine goes from about 150 Megs to 25 Megs upon minimization, then back up to only 50 upon restoring the browser again.

if i did this right my 80 processes should be lhere. ignore the photoshop as i just used it to capture the pictures i think it's unreadable. i saved it as giff at regular size and it was readable in the preview window but not here. update just changed it from gif to jpeg might be better. if this still doesn't work should i try pdf?

Sorry for the confusion, I thought it was you that said that. Well I tried the Firefox tweak, and I dont think it seemed to work. The memory stays the same when it is minimized or maximized. Hmmm... I'm doing everything right as it says. So I dont know what is wrong.

HAHA I meant 400mb with all that running!! Not 42!! I'm sorry, that'd be ridiculous!

Just keep cutting those non essentials.

I did get it to consistently startup at 32% mem usage. The most I ususally use now w/o gaming is 40% I think that's pretty dandy when I have a gig.

Are you using the factory-installed OS, and did you do a semi-restore?

Download Startup Control Panel and uncheck any programs that you don't want to run at start up. Post screenshots if you're unsure which programs are safe to remove or you can just google the filename and most likely there will be information about it.

You should also turn off and set to "manual" any unnecessary services. Archie88 has already provided the list of the services that are safe to disable, but post screenshots if you want more assistance. To view the services, click Start->Run and type "services.msc".

I also did a restore. I do one every 5-6 months to clear all the crap I install and trimline my machine.
