Hello everyone, I'm about to buy a sony vaio vgn-fw460. I wanted to know the lenght of the standard warranty on the laptops... cause I know i can by the extended one, but i'll keep this for later. Also, I'd like to know what it covers, if it's part and labor. I have one last question. I live in quebec, canada, and the nearest sony service center is at 450 km. If I ever have a problem with my computer, do i have to go there, or can I just send the computers with a notice explaining my problem ?

    Thank you for you answers

Thanks for the fast answers. I have already been on the website you gave me it says the lenght of the extended care plan... but not the original one... also it's mentionned on the website that you can go to a service center to get reparations etc... "Where can I take my product to be serviced?

If your product should require servicing, our service locator will point you towards your closest Sony authorized service centre. Click here and search by postal code or city. Our service locator is easy to use! "
But do i have to GO there, or can i just send the computer with the notice... cause 450 km back and forth is quite long...

(and sorry if this seems pathetic, but it's because i haven't find the answer on the website.... maybe because it's in english, but on the french website the links to the warranty services are dead)
    thanks for the answer

well now i feel dumb... cause i did read that part on the website...XD, thanks a lot... it makes me feel safer :p and now my last question... i guess the original warranty lasts 1 year on parts and labor right? and then i can buy the extended one...? Cause I think I understood that there is the manufacturer warranty, and then in the options of customization, you can get an EXTRA warranty... or am I mistaken?

What is the original warranty period of the products?

Warranty periods vary depending on the type of product. Most of our products come with a one-year manufacturer's warranty. The warranty period of your product may be found on the warranty card that came with it or click here to check out for detailed information on our warranty lengths.

Thank you, hum... didn't want to make a new thread for this noob question, i don't know much about blue-ray reader devices and i wanted to know this : If I get a blue-ray read only device, will it read/write normal DVD's and CD's or only read blue-ray's? Also, i was wondering... if I don't take the full HD screen... and i take the LCD 16.4" (XBRITE-ECO™ ;), will it still provides me HD (cause i know there is HD ready at 720 p instead of full HD at 1080p) ?

    thanks for answering :)

    Hi

    This link should help.

    http://www.docs.sony.com/release/VAIO_Warranty_2-586-738-02-USA.pdf

I also live in Quebec, and received my Vaio a few days ago. Warranty is 1 year. I also purchased an additional 2 year extended warranty.
