Hey everyone,
Quick, hopefully simple question. Not taking price into account, which drive is the better choice between the 128GB SSD (MLC) vs 320GB 7200rpm options currenlty on the Z690.
I've heard the MLC SSD's are fast in certain areas, but arent always the best options vs the 7200rpm drives yet... and have some issues with multi-tasking, etc. So basically, my question is how is the 128GB Samsung MLC rated vs the 7200rpm drives Sony uses?
Any opinions or thoughts are truly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

I have a ocz 128gb on my z90s..with cpu t9600..
In general, it performs great...but ones you're under heavy loading..(i have like bt, msn, tons of sites opened) it felt abit slow...i think it deals with the random access issues that MLC does very bad on...
If price is not you concern...shot it up to SLC..those are best in all area..I have mtron ssd...pricy..but lighting fast you get full 100mb/100mb....largeset out there is memoright 128gb ssd price around 2000 USD on ebay for SLC -

I can't talk about the sony 128gb SSD directly, but I've owned the Samsung 128gb MLC SSD (1.8" version, usually slower) and it averaged about 100MB/sec in Read, and overall felt faster than the 320gb 7200rpm drives I have.
Having said that, i still think that it would be the smartest move to DIY upgrade the cheapest sony hard drive to a 500gb 7200rpm 2.5" which is only about $130 right now. -
Any other thoughts? -
I owned 7200 320 and 160 GB wd drives (which are fast) and right now I'm using a Samsung 128 GB MLC first gen SSD.
I am very happy and satisfied with it. But I think you better upgrade to SSD after you buy because Samsung SSD prices are dropping on ebay fast -

Keep the original hdd nearby and swap it in if you ever need to have it serviced. -
Personally ... go for a cheaper HDD, maybe 7200 rpm so that if you wait longer for a SSD you'll still be happy ... then switch it yourself, with a better priced, well researched SSD. <-- My plan.
The SSD options are still $, very much so when doing it direct from Sony, and I'm also not entirely sure I'll be happy with it ... I'd rather use the regular drive and wait it out.

I heard the new 256GB Samsung MLC is supposed to be miles faster than the 128GB and any 7200rpm. -
too much speculation and drama here

I have the following
UX -> 1 X SAMSUNG 64GB ZIF 1.8" SLC (paid 450$ after 25% ebay cashback)
TT -> 2 X SAMSUNG 128GB (256GB total) SDI 1.8" MLC in RAID0 (came with laptop, which cost me 3490$)
MacBook PRO -> 1 X SAMSUNG 256GB SDI 2.5" MLC (paid 400$)
As you can see the cost is not extreme in any case
The samsung SSDs has nothing to do with the JMICRON hacks on the market (G.SKILL/OCZ/Patriot/etc)
The benchmarks are as follow (HDTune):
UX - 60-68MB with average 65MB
TT - 179-280MB (spikes to 280 here and there) with average 190MB
MBP - 220-230MB with average 221
as you see SLC/MLC doesn't matter when done right. never buy a SSD with non-Intel or non-Samsung chipset. NEVER. You are better off with a 500GB Seagate 7200RPM 2.5" HDD -
what was the purpose of your post?
