    Hi all I'm from Australia and looking at this new 16.4" Vaio notebook.

    http://www.sony.com.au/vaio/catalog/product.jsp?categoryId=30605#

    Does anyone have any reviews or opinion of the new 16.4" VAIO BLU RAY HOME PERFORMANCE PC VGNFW37GYH ?

    Can I confirm it has Blu-ray write functionality? How practical would having blu-ray write functionality be? Are blank blu-ray disc expensive?

    Is it easy for ram and hard drive upgrade by myself as it comes with a 500gb 4200rpm harddrive which is disappointing.

    How big is the difference between DDR 2 and DDR 3 ram? This model only has the DDR 2 not DDR 3 ram.

    That particular model can not read or write Blu-ray.

    yes, it cost around $25 for single-layer 25gb version. quite expensive vs DVD when you compare price/capacity ratio.

    yes, should be easy.
    make sure to destatic urself. static wrist-strap recommended.

    you cannot upgrade more than 4gb on 32-bit system, doubt that you will need more anyway. 4gb ram module still very expensive.

    the 500gb 4200rpm harddrive is not as slow as you might imagine. the drive nowdays has high density, which means the disc doesnt need to spin as fast to get to the data. i recommend you stick with them. they generate little heat and doesnt suck little battery compared to their faster counterpart.

    i dont think this model support DDR3. im guessing not relevant at this point. i dont find the memmory being the bottleneck in dual channel system. the new DDR3 is faster in mhz front. but they introduce more latency.

    Are we confusing each other because it comes in different configuration in different country?

    I just checked out the notebook review link you posted. I have only just realised it is known as VAIO vgn-fw198u in USA, it has different configuration to the one on Sony's Australia website.

    It is listed in Australia as;
