I don't know if i'm the first one who spotted this laptop, or if the search option in these forums doesn't work, but here's a link to a belgium online store which will sell the new 17 inch sony vaio EC. For the americans, don't worry, we belgians always get old hardware like that 5400rpm hard drive, I'm sure you will have the option of getting 7200rpm hard drives at the sony style store by customizing (customizing is not possible in Belgium).

    Here's the link:

    Any comments?

Why only Core i5? It's cousin F with smaller screen, 16.4", has core i7.
And why only 17" or is that 17.3"? That's not that much bigger than 16.4". They should go all the way to 18.4" like AW Series.

Most probably Ex series is supposed to be cheap one and not competitive to the middle range models?

It looks to be a successor to the FW with those specs. Maybe it's designed a little differently, but the display/size, intel CPU combined with the successor to the 4650 (5650), and the blu-ray. The internals resemble a next generation FW. That's just my opinion! EWW.. and I just realized that the model with the specs I just quoted comes with a 39Whr battery! That'll last like 20mins.

If the screen quality will be better than the one offered by the sony vaio S/Y/CW/E series this might be a good multimedia desktop replacement for me ^^
