Hi,
I'm thinking about buying a FZ31s (in the UK) but wasn't sure about a couple of things:
1. Since 1280x800 is a bit lower than I would like for photographic work I was going to get an external monitor (good idea for photo processing anyway).
The monitor I was looking at (Samsung 2232BW) has a DVI input and I see the FZ31s looks like it only has a HDMI output.
Will I be able to run the monitor at it's native resolution of 1680x1050 using a HDMI to DVI converter? Is anyone doing this? Good results?
2. Am I right in thinking the Blu-ray drive is read only and you cannot burn blu-ray disks?
Cheers for any help.
Dave.

Not sure about the monitor , but the Blu-ray drive on the Sony Vaio FZ31S is a reader AND writer. So you WILL be able to burn blu-ray discs.

one to tick off the list.. thanks.

Was reading a bit more about HDMI. Sounds like since HDMI is backward compatible with DVI that a HDMI->DVI converter should in theory work fine to a monitor. So I'd guess it should give 1680x1050 too. It'll just not carry any audio.
Still would like to hear from someone who's tried it! -
FZ I have seems to have DVI output, next to HDMI out and S-Video out.

You can easily convert HDMI or VGA to DVI with an adapter for about £2 off any good computer website such as ebuyer.co.uk or goto Maplins if there is one nearby.

With the HDMI output you can set many different resolution settings when connected, so I would imagine with a simple DVI converter it would be usable for you. I have FZ4 series.

I thought all the FZ series machines had VGA, S-video and HDMI outputs. Are you SURE you have DVI out?
