Pretty much what the topic states, is it worth buying the 2.5ghz version of the SR rather than the 2.26ghz, the cache is double and possibly more future proof?
I mean apart from spreadsheets / documents and the free-time gaming (WoW, etc) I wont be doing much cpu intensive work however who knows?!
-
if battery life is not important I would get the 2.5Ghz if it is important I would get the 2.26Ghz as it uses 10W less power.
Pxxx intel C2D = 25W (P8600?)
Txxx intel C2D = 35W (T9300) -
Well, which CPUs are you looking at ??
The P9500/T9400 and the P8400 ??
I would go for the P8400, since it is a very powerful CPU itself, and can complete any multi-threaded intensive task in a respectable amount of time. -
I recently had to make this decision myself when I purchased my SR (today!). I ended up going with the 2.26Ghz CPU because of the battery life and the price. My uses are similar to yours (internet use, Office, very light gaming), and from what I've been able to read the speed difference is negligible when using such low-intensity applications.
Put the $200 savings into RAM or a nice messenger bag or something. -
id go with the 8400 simply for heat/battery reasons. the extra clock speed wont appreciate itself in the real world, just benchmarks.
-
when comparing 8400 vs 8600, where would I see a difference if Im using the laptop for internet surfing, movies, videos, multimedia stuff online and light gaming?
edit: thats with the Z laptop -
I doubt you'd even see any performance gain with the gaming. It would be very, very slightly noticeable, but really, not much difference. They still both have the same L2 Cache and it only gets you like, around a 10 point or so 3dMark synthetic score anyway.
For those other things, the P8400 would be very adequate, and thensome. It's very fast for what I do, even gaming.
2.5Ghz 6mb cache SR - Worth it?
