In how many environments does this happen (e.g. does it work at home but not elsewhere)? Is the network access encrypted? Is it only the web browser that has problems connecting? When you say 'successfully connected', does that include accessing websites?
-
I just tried it at home, and yes its encrypted, all web browsers dont show any websites. It only says successfully connected to wireless network. It shows good signal and internet connection. Do you think its the adapter?

I don't think it's the adapter's or driver's issue...
Have you been able to connect to websites successfully using the same wireless router but different machine? If so, then the wireless router isn't set up properly for your machine. Does it use some form of access control, e.g. you need to register the wireless MAC address? If you can log into the router, can you see your machine's MAC on it? Are you getting a reasonable IP address (issued by the router if it runs a DHCP server?) -
I havent tried messing with the MAC address, and i can't get a reasonable IP Address.. I tried giving it a specific IP but it still wont work. The wireless is running on an old dell pc via usb adapter, my uncle's inspiron laptop and a wired connection through the router to a newer dell desktop. I can run the internet wired through this laptop though.
Thank you for your help. -

I guess that's the problem. Either the laptop isn't picking it up, or the wireless router isn't giving it an IP (although I think it's not the problem because it seems to be giving an IP to the wired interface). Can you check your wireless setting and see if it accepts IP automatically:

Wait... Your Vaio P has Intel Pro wireless 2200? That's a full Mini-PCI. Anyways, have you tried setting static DNS addresses? Also, if this is actually an intel 2200 BG you're using, the 2200 has issues with certain types of security implementations. Mainly WPA. WEP shared key works better with the 2200.
