Hi Vistar. Is it possible to have photos of the display turned on? Very torn between getting the fullhd or the WXGA version. Any info on things like adobergb (especially this) for this laptop? Most reviews put srgb at 100%.

I have no info on adobeRGB for this particular screen (fullHD), since the only review I found was the one I posted on laptopmag. It says 116.8 percent of the sRGB color gamut. For the WQHD screen there is more info since it should be the same as in the Vaio Z Flip, I think. Notebookcheck places the AdobeRGB at 64.3%.
I imagine the WQHD version with the i7 cpu should get maybe 2 hours less of battery life..?
Not sure if pictures help, but here it goes.

The only notebook I know of that comes with skylake iris 550 28w is the vaio z. I don´t when the new macbook pro 13" comes out, but they will offer the 28w cpus.

Hi, I recently got the Vaio Z clam shell and I was wondering if I have a faulty track pad. I noticed when I physically click on the touch pad with my thumb and drag with my index finger, my touch pad often depresses on its own when I am still applying pressure. I narrowed it down to the fact that if I slightly release pressure on my track pad, not enough to hear the audible click of it being unpressed, it would unregister my click and if I reapply slight pressure without making an audible click it would register a click again. Sorry if this does not make too much sense. I will try to explain it better if no one understands this issue.

Piratechip, my trackpad depresses only at lower right or left when I physically click, just like any other track pad. The rest of the track pad stays very sturdy. I think you might have a faulty one, if I understood correctly, since I am having no such issues.

Mine depresses as well but i lose the click and drag if i release a little pressure. Hmm, can you do a test? Click and drag an item and then slowly release a little pressure without depressing. Did you lose the item you are dragging? Or are you still able to drag it around.

If this is the 1080p display then I guess I won't be needing a WQHD. This is terrific. Much nicer than my vaio pro 13 which is also a 1080p display.
    Thanks Vistar

I am not exactly sure what you want from the trackpad, but doing the test you suggested, the left click is either depressed or not, doesn´t seem to have much leeway in between. So it drags fine when it is depressed, and when I release the pressure it unclicks so I lose the dragging. Makes sense?
If this is anoying you, perhaps try getting used to double tap gesture on the trackpad? I never got used to it, but it should work fine.

Vistar, I just got the Z Flip. I need your help on the touchpad drivers. You mentioned in a previous post that you changed to different drivers from the Japanese site. Could you please provide a link to the drivers and if there is a way to install them. The default driver is absolutely awful. Thanks!

fq1, actually after I did a clean install when installing the 512gb Samsung 950 pro, I ended up with the standard drivers, and I feel it is working really well. Not sure if the change was subjective or not. The drivers I mentioned before are on the japanese vaio site, I suggest using google translate...jusst to note, I haven´t been using it since the clean install, since I am happy with the standard windows drivers for now.
Here is the link...hopefully the Elan driver will work better than the standard drives for you...

Thanks, Vistar! I will try and see if those work better. Also, in case I want to do a clean install as well, what do I need to do (as I am not familiar with doing these now that there are no CDs that come with machines).

fq1, since the vaio z is a wiindows signature edition, it already is a clean install, I only did a clean install because it is the only way for me to install the new ssd. So, as far as my comment that the standard windows driver for the trackpad feels better now after the clean install is probably subjective on my part, since there is no reason for it be working any better than before. As far as the clean install of windows 10, if you ever need to, the procedure is to download windows 10 with the media creation tool from the microsoft site onto a usb. Then disable secure boot in BIOS, then boot from usb. Windows will install all the necessary drivers. The only thing that needs to be downloaded from the vaio site (japan) would be the vaio control center/shared library. Maybe there are some extra drivers for the Flip, I am not sure, but if or when needed, I can look it up. Enjoy your new Vaio. Hopefully the Elan driver works better for you than the standard windows one.

Vistar, thanks again for your response. I tried the Elan driver from the Vaio Japan site and it did not do much to the trackpad (at least was not noticeable for me). What drives me crazy with these new Windows Precision trackpads is how imprecise they actually are. There is no motion for the first few millimeters of finger movement and then the cursor doe not stop moving for a bit after one has stopped moving their finger. I am going to try one more remedy listed in this link http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...hpad-ptp-driver-with-synaptics-driver.783990/ but I am not sure if it will work.

Regarding the rest of the Vaio Z Flip, you are correct that the quality appears to be very high. Except that on my Y and N key, there is a very tiny "bump", the kind that you find in injection molded plastic. These I think are tiny quality oversights.

Also, I have had some issues with WiFi. My machine loses WiFi connectivity (wifi turned off by itself) each time a turn it on or I wake it up from sleep. I then have to go back into settings and turn wifi on again. In addition, a few times the wifi turned itself off afer going to a new site and then I had to go into settings to turn it back on only for it to go off after entering a new website address.

fq1, perhaps updating the wifi driver might help. There is a BIOS update as well, not sure if it will help, or what BIOS are you running.
    http://support.us.vaio.com/customer/en/portal/topics/931395-vaio-z-software-updates/articles

if the wifi driver update doesn´t resolve your issue....then perhaps you can try disabling instantgo (ConnectedStandby) in registry...I can explain how to do it if needed. I opted to disable the Connected Standby because I wanted all the power options tweaks, which are hidden with CS enabled. CS enabled allows the laptop to be more like a tablet, smartphone, where even sleeping it will stay connected to the internet to update apps. I am happy with the traditional laptop sleep.

Based on review of Vaio S I read on Amazon -
    Pros:
    1. It is relatively light weight heavier than either Samsung or LaVie Z 360 but lighter than HP Spectre 13.
    2. Nice rigid lid with metal feeling. Body also does not have any flex, except the keyboard area, which shows flex. However the keys themselves have good feedback and are not impacted by the flex.
    3. Biggest reason for going with this laptop is if you want a number of traditional ports on a laptop. In fact it has full size ethernet port, three usb ports, vga port, full hdmi port, full size sd card port and left and right click trackpad buttons. I have not come across any other laptop in sub 2.5 lbs category with all these ports.
    4. Screen is bright enough. It should be approx 300 nits. It is IPS display with good viewing angles. However it is not the brightest screen. Samsung at 400 nits and HP screen are brighter than this. However unlike HP this does have have screen glare or reflection and unlike Samsung Note 9 does not suffer from pulse width modulation issue to cause eye strain.
    5. Key travel is nice and sufficient (not Thinkpad level, but good for a ultrabook). Key travel in my opinion is slightly better than Samsung and slightly less than HP Spectre.
    6. Speaker sound is also good enough if you are in quiet room. It is way better than prior year Sony Vaio models and LaVaie Z (tinny speaker), but they are not as loud as HP Spectre, which you can hear even in noisy environment at full volume.
    Cons:
No significant con, except that it priced way higher than its competitors for similar configuration.
