I am on the fence about going with the 320 GB HDD or the 256 GB SDD

I never used SDD... Can someone tell me if it is REALLY faster?

Also, I read that SDD is Bad with Blu Ray and I am configuring with Blu Ray... so will that be an issue?

Also it is weird that you can not configure bluray with the 128 SDD but you CAN with the 256 SDD...

Also what is the "lifespan" of the SDD... I have seen several articles with different information... Will it last more than 3 years.. the life of most notebooks I use?

Anyway if anyone has any answers especially if the SDD is really bette r(forgetting the price issue).. Please let me know..

    Appreciate your opinion!!

    Mike

I wont say for others by I consider SSD to be fast. Money well put i'd say.
I'm currently running Patriot SSD + Blu ray Type Z Vaio. No issues.
SSD hasnt really been out long enough to determine life span.
If you could ask Sony USA why their Z series has SSD but not with BLu-Ray because I also want to know. Oh well SSD + Blu-Ray currently on my Type Z and its awesome haha

Finally. There are already alot of posts on SSD and Vaios. I don't think its wise to keep making new Threads. I just think less threads will make it easier for others to look for topics they need instead.

At first there are only 128GB and 64GB SSD option for the Z. To burn a double layer BD, you need 50GB free space (25GB for single layer). 128GB-50GB= 78GB (acutually you get less then 78GB). Vista and prgrams take up some space. And then recovery partition takes up 7GB too. There aren't many space left at last. Sony just don't think it's user friendly and decide not to put them together.

Cheers human668 for the info. Too bad huh, I just checked the Sony JP website and they have 256SSD but still don't allow the pairing of a blu-ray drive.

    Are you sure?
I'm pretty sure Japan Sony Style does offer 1600x900, bluray burnner and 256GB SSD all together.
Are they too pricey so you don't see it?
I hope I can afford something like that after 3 years.

It DOES seem there is a 256 GB/Blu Ray option on CTO on American site)...

Do MORE PEOPLE get the standard SATA Drive or the SDD....

If money was no object and you had a choice... which is BETTER??

    Thanks for help

High quality SSD IMHO is the best option. Issues are that they are not very large, comparable to mechanical hdds now, price, and quality of some lower end drivers causing some major access issues.

SSD. Without a doubt. Performs better and has higher shock resistence.

Seagate 7200.4 500GB is coming soon though and it's an interesting alternative.

I go for HD now. Those SSD still super expensive.

The other Q is that it is not friendly to put it in the Z from what I have read.
