weird... Coulda sworn I answered this earlier. The FE has a higher resolution than the SZ meaning the graphics card has to render more pixels

Doesn't 3dmark05 default to 1024x768 anyway? At least the basic version does. So, it really shouldn't matter what the native screen resolution is. Drivers can make a difference.

with 832 drivers (the latest provided by Sony), I got 1906 as a highest score.

the nvidia control panel has some 3d options that can be tinkered with a bit.

ostack... with those 1906 3Dscores (832 drivers) was that the FE or the SZ?

Have a link to the drivers?

    SZ
The 832 drivers were the ones from Sony. I don't have a link, but if you go to their support site and look up the SZ drivers, they'll be there.

These drivers gave a me a boost over the 832 drivers:

You need to download the drivers, and the inf file. After extracting the drivers, copy the downloaded inf file into the driver directory. Then update drivers. I didn't have to and voodoo or ritualistic sacrifices to get them installed, just the standard driver update, and manually locate and install the drivers. Some have had to use detonator destroyer to remove drivers before installing the new ones. I didn't have to deal with that.

How do I download the inf file? When I click it, it brings me to a page with a lot of mumbo jumbo.

Do I install this in speed mode? Do I have to uninstall the old driver first, or just update?

You have to be in speed mode. If you are in stamina, the machine does not recognize the 7400 is even there.

I don't know about uninstalling first. I had read that you have to, but when I did, it forced a reboot, and upon reboot, it recognized the card again and installed the same drivers again, so, I'm not sure you have to do that. I would just update. You might end up needing to use a program to clean up left over files, but I didn't have any issues like that.

I updated the drivers without uninstalling the originals first. My scores didnt change. 1891 with the original sony drivers and 1888 with the updated drivers. Do you think this is because of the residuals left over from the old driver? Would running detonator destroyer change anything?

Did you see any change after installing the new drivers?

I definantly noticed an increase of around 30 points going from 832 to 842. I haven't installed the latest release though. I ran DD, but it never found any old drivers or files to remove. I don't know if it performs any other functions that you don't necessarily see. I don't think it would hurt to run it and see.

I ran DD and it didn't find anything either. Maybe it was the methods we took.

It's not the methods you took. The Geforce 7400 is too new for DD. try Driver Cleaner Pro. It worked when I tried it

1902 with the 84.21 drivers - mine's an SZ120 but I think the guts of the beast are the same.
