Does anyone have a 3dmark06 result for their Vaio FZ. I am configuring mine with a t7300 processor and 2gb of ram as well as the 8400mgt. I am debating between the fz190 or the dell 1520. I know the dells have a score around 3000 so how does the sony fz compare. Thanks for your help!

From the FZ Owner's Thread people have published the following:
For the manufacturer preinstalled driver: (on a T7100, 2GB)
    3dmark06: 1419
    pcmark05: 2190

For the video driver 162.18 from laptopvideo2go (On a T7700):
    3dmark05: 4615
    3dmark06: 2632
    pcmark05: 5613

I haven't taken the benchmarks on my machine, but FSX runs pretty smoothly on it. I assume that the Dell could benefit from better drivers as well, as the published benchmarks for the Inspiron 1520 do not make it worth the trouble spending the money on the upgrade to an 8600M GT. Even if you get a slightly better GPU, you may not enjoy it as much with a Dell display. The FZ's Screen is simply unbeatably bright and crisp.

Do you know if it has ddr3 or ddr2 memory for the graphics card. My only reason for not buying the sony right away is that the graphics card is lower than the dells and the screen is lower resolution. are these justified reasons or is the sony still better?

Sony's 8400M GT has 256mg of ddr3. Does the dell 1520 use ddr3 in the 8600GT? I've heard that people have been receiving ddr2...

I can't really help in terms of justification as it is a personal choice.

Pros of FZ compared to 1520:
    - Sleek design in FZ
    - Lighter weight and thinner
    - Better build material (alloy vs plastic)
    - Better screen - crisp image, color, and viewing angles

Cons of FZ compared to 1520:
    - May cost a bit more more
    - 8600M GT is a faster card especially if it has ddr3
    - higher resolution screen in the 1520

    Good luck!

I still would not buy a Dell Inspiron laptop, but at least now they are made of Aluminum magnesium alloy and not plastic. Furthermore I found this, Construction

The VAIO FZ seems to be mostly made of a rigid plastic material for the case, with some magnesium in the lid for extra protection.
