I have a 4 gig stick that i am considering purchasing and wonder if I can put it in my tz or does the bios limit it to only 2gigs? Its only one dimm not two because the tz only has one slot

I believe that the TZ has the Intel 945GMS chipset. If so, the chipset has an addressing limit of 2GB RAM. I've got 2.5GB (2GB module + 512MB on board in my G11 and the computer can see it all but only uses 2GB).

You would have to use a 64-bit OS to address that much memory anyways. Do 64-bit drivers even exist for the TZ?

2 gig alone is alot. 4 gig is overkill, would the performance of the Tz150 even reach the needs of 4 gigs?

^Yes with the next Windows operating system. :p

Although, I do hope the maximum RAM is 4GB when Santa Rosa platform is added.

It's BIOS locked. The 945 chipset supports up to 4GB (well, 3GB or so usable). I proved this on the SZ. If you stick a 2GB DIMM in the Japanese G with 1GB onboard for a total of 3GB, it won't even power up. YOu need a 1GB DIMM to make it work. I jhaven't tried it on the G2 yet, but I bet it's the same.

So it's not an issue - the chipset supports more. Sony limits it.

You haven't spotted the difference between the Intel 945GM chipset (in the SZ) and the 945GMS chipset (in the TZ and G series). The "S" means single channel and gives the benefit of lower power consumption, among other things.

Visit Intel and get the 945 family datasheet. On page 27 you will see that for the 945GMS chipset:

However, I'm intrigued that this spec gives no clue that a 2GB SO-DIMM will work.
