Iv got a set of 5.1 logitech x540s. im getting a vaio FZ21S and it probably only has a headphone jack, how would i convert this 2.1 audio coming out of a laptop to be pushed through my 5.1 speakers?. Is it even possible without a 5.1 card?

I think you need three jacks (example=Headphone, Mic, Line-In) and then the chip and software need to support 5.1 through these jacks. (Sound Reality has both a 2 channel and 5.1 channel chip apprently) But i guessing, as is the habit with Sony laptops, that they only have the headphone and Mic jacks. I don`t see a optical connector either on the FZ or on any laptop for that matter.
I was going to suggest picking up a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA card.
They sound quality difference is phenomal and it can convert all 2 channel sources into 5.1, 7.1, etc and has hardware accerlation unlike the new X-Fi.
Unfortuantly I haven`t used a FZ before but looking from online pictures it doesn`t have a PCMCIA slot and only has a express card 34 (The Creative sound blaster X-Fi is express card 54 so no help their either) So i think you may be stuck with only the left and right front speakers outputting sound on your logitech speakers. The smaller SZ has both PCMCIA and Express Card 34, go figure.
There might be a method to push the 2 channels to 5.1 like splitting the cable to connect to also the centre/subwoofer, right rear/left rear maybe thats a bad idea, am i missing something here?
5.1 speakekrs attached to a notebook?
