I have the same problem. I got th recovery discs and tried to reinstall the windvd bd, and when its gets to 50%, the installation is interrumped, with the message 505: 41, and dont allow me to finish the instalation. I tried resetting the BIOS, but the problem persists.
If anybody knows how to fix this issue, or how i can get the windvd bd for vaio, please tell me.
Thanks.
By the way i have a FZ280e -
Guys, i have the same issue. Did you manage to resolve this?
by googling, it looks like a folder permissions issue but i'm running it as administrator. -
After 3 days of troubleshooting, I decided to do the following:
I thought about using the method to extract the compressed files from the recovery CD, but I did the following method instead.
1.) Restore the OEM Factory Vista OS using the Recovery dvd
2.) Boot to Vista, insert the Recovery CD
3.) Perform a WinDVD *un*install.
4.) Boot the system
5.) Take the notebook batteries off
6.) Go to \users\(your profile)\appdata\local\temp folder
7.) Install WinDVD using the recovery dvd
8.) Pay attention for a new folder to be created, I think it's called vwindvd
9.) During the install, once it gets to over 50% or more, in other words, a little before the install finishes and *deletes* the "vwindvd" install folder, *I pull the powercord from the laptop* (do not pull the power cord when it gets to 50%, rather let it get to 50% and wait a few seconds. The trick is to pull the cord before the install process deletes the temp folder
10.) Start OEM Vista again
11.) Retrieve the new \users\(your profile)\appdata\local\temp\"vwindvd" folder
12.) Copy it the folder to a USB thumb drive
Note: Before installing it back to your clean Vista system, perform a 'uninstall/install' or install/uninstall procedure. The point is, is to make sure there are no corrupt files within the folder because I tried it and I got a data.cab file corruption and installation could not finish. Therefore, I had to do the 'pull cord' technique again and hence why you want to "let it get to 50% and wait a few seconds" and mentioned in step 9 above.
When you install on the new clean Vista, the setup procedure will ask for two (2) things:
1.) MS Visual C++ 2005 Redistribute Package (x86)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...EE-A3F9-4C13-9C99-220B62A191EE&displaylang=en
2.) DirectX (an older edition)
So, I downloaded and installed "DirectX 10" for Vista. I also downloaded "MS Visual C++ **2008** Redistribute Package (x86)". But the WinDVD install is picky and it wants the 2005 edition instead.
Using the above steps, I then restore my Vista Ultimate, install the device drivers and then install WinDVD.
Nevertheless, I would like someone who is having this issue to install "MS Visual C++ 2005 Redistribute Package (x86)" and DirectX 10 and try to perform the install again using the Recovery DVD. I'm wondering if that would work in order to bypass my 12 step workaround.
Let me know what works for you. -
Hi Comovez
Thank you for the tips - I am trying to get the original apps from my Vaio across to the Windows 7 beta.
I tried your suggestion at the end of your message, installed "MS Visual C++ 2005 Redistribute Package (x86)" via your link and my machine already has DirectX 11 (as reported by typing dxdiag at the command prompt). In Windows 7 I got the same Error 505 message and install failed.
Not giving up, I did find some differences with my machine. While waiting for the Recovery Disc installation in Vista Home to reach 50% to grab the install files, I only found two directories with cryptic names appearing like {AD85DF-34598345DF-3495845}". This is not the exact name, but anyone will recognise them when you see them. They only had some of the WinDVD files. The bulk of them appeared in C:\windows\temp\mount. The 'mount' directory is deleted automatically when the Recovery Disc gives up the install. Without pulling the plug, I copied the folder before it disappeared as the installation attempt takes quite a long time. I then put all the files together from this folder (which includes a few directories too) and the other two folders from \users\(your profile)\appdata\local\temp. They add up to 190 MB. There were two 'Setup.exe' files so I renamed the one from the 'mount' directory and used the other.
This ran perfectly to uninstall and reinstall WinDVD in Vista Home!
As I'm playing with Windows 7, I went on to attempt this installation. At the end of what appeared to be a seemless installation, I got this error message: 'Error 1904.Module C:\Program Files\InterVideo\Common\Bin\IVIVIDEO.ax failed to register. HRESULT -2147220473. Contact your support personnel."
I found this fix but it was not successful: in Command Prompt window, type with quotes: regsvr32 C:\Program Files\InterVideo\Common\Bin\IVIVIDEO.ax
I also tried setting the compatibility for setup.exe to Vista - no good. Then the application .exe as well, but still the app won't launch.
Finally, a search on the Corel website (sells WinDVD) said it's due to DirectX and an update via the Microsoft website should solve it. I went to the MS page with DirectX web installer (ver 9c) installed it, rebooted, and voila! WinDVD installed perfectly and functions well!
Was it worth it? I hope so.
