I seem to have no "N" (only ABG) options in Smart WiFi. Device manager says an intel 4965AGN is installed.

    Any ideas...

Go to Control Panel -> Hardware & Sound -> Device Manager -> View hardware & devices -> Networtk Adapters and double click on Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965. Choose Advanced tab and Properity -> 802.11n and you can see that's activate.

    Thanks visoneer.

    802.11n mode is "enabled".
    802.11n Cahnnel width is "auto".

Under the same tab in wireless mode, I have 6 choices:
    802.11a
    802.11b
    802.11g
    802.11a/g
    802.11b/g
    802.11a/b/g

    Driver version 11.5.0.32 / Intel / 12-20-2007

check task manager for connection speed. The Smart Wi and Vista gadget applets do not show anythig better than a G conection eventhough it is at N.

No idea when Sony will fix this glitch.

O.K. I will do that, I'll be back to my N router tomorrow, I bought it for travel and was hoping to lock both units to N so that I could reduce to number of hotel guest who could even see it. I don't guess it is a big deal since it is not broadcasting the SSID and is also WPA2ed...

(yes there are still hotels without wireless internet, much to my dismay)

Yep, I travel quite a bit myself. More disheartening is the fact that many hotels charge for internet access. At $9.99 a day, I was easily able to cost justify a Sprint EV-DO card (embedded in the M1330/TZ).

Yep the airport hotels and "conference centers" always do that...

Checked it several times and the best it will do is 54mbs...

So you turned off ABG on your home router, connected N and still get 54mbit in taskmanager?

Remember that the smart wi interface will only show 54 max. Task Manager's networking tab will show the actual speed.

    I'm away from it again...

I'll have to verify that I shut the G completely down on the router, probably not since I assumed that it would use the most advantagous connection. Probably a bad assumption.

I was watching speed in >network and sharing center>status but will check in device manager as well...

N won't have a noticable performance increase for web browsing and the like. Main benefits from my experiece are better range ad faster network file transfers.

There are lots of routers available, I personally have a DLINK DIR-655. Works great.

It does connect with the router in n only mode...

Best I've seen in task manager is 144mbps...

I guess atleast I know the n is working...
