I bought a Vaio AR51SU two and a half years ago. As it is a laptop I paid for the 3 year warranty (about £180 I think).
About a year ago I was having hard drive errors and I sent it away for repairs. Within a week it was returned to me with two new hard drives. I thought that was pretty good service.
Last Saturday night I came to my laptop, which was in sleep mode, and pressed the space bar to wake it up. No sign of life whatsoever. No lights, no sounds nothing. I checked the output from the AC lead and it was fine.
Oh dear, I thought, maybe just the jack socket or worse the motherboard
So I phoned Sony on Monday and arranged for it to be picked up.
The short story is that within 45 hours Sony picked it up, took it to Colchester (about 200 miles from me) put in a new motherboard AND 2 new hard drives and returned it to me!
That's got to be some kind of record!
Not even any queries about how the laptop had been used (power supply, surge protection etc, nothing).
In my view that's a pretty good service.

    Many thanks Sony!

Thanks for reporting such positive experiences with Sony! Often only the negative experiences are mentioned here.

To be honest I have been the first to complain when I thought something was not right. It's nice to have the chance to congratulate them when they do a good job.

I've also had pleasant experiences with Sony service before. I had a Vaio SR that I accidentally dropped from 3 ft onto the carpet with the power connector attached. This made the DC jack on the laptop loose. There was even an easibly visible dent on the laptop case. Called in Sony, they sent a service personnel with the right parts in 2 days to my house who fixed it, no questions asked. This was within the manufacturers warranty period and I didnt have any supplemental warray. Every since been a big sony fan.
