Somebody in the Asus forum claimed that the new A series is now equipped with a much more powerful Nvidia GeForce Go 6800 (256 MB). Is this true, or is that coming out of nowhere?

The guy replied and apparently, Sony offered it for a while (no duration given) before pulling it.
-
what???...why did they do that??...what do u mean "no duration given"?? -
What I mean is that the guy didn't tell me how long this lasted. It could have been as short as several hours or as long as days or weeks.
Edit - He says it happened "several months ago." -
Hey Eli, what laptop is your avator? Looks real nice.
-
The new Sony BX that was announced a few days ago. I just took their hi-res press release image and made into an avatar since the site doesn't have one up for it yet.

Did Sony mention anything pertaining to the A series in this round of updates? We've seen the S and FS series get updates, but I heard nothing on the A series. As it stands now, the S series will play games just as well as the A series.
-
You can see the specs in the link I gave. They still use X600 for the 17", although the version has 256 MB hyper memory. It is not clear how many are onboard.
There is no update on the 15.4" A model. -
edit: Nevermind. Just saw the specs at http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INT...BrowseCatalog-Start?CategoryName=hid_bx_specs
Any news on how much these are going to cost? -
A touch more expensive than the S series. The base price for the 14" model is about $1350. Use the current S series pricing for the component upgrades to get a reasonable estimate. I actually configured it on the Japanese site and here's what I found.
(These are rough conversions from yen to dollars. Some options may end up being cheaper than what's listed here, especiall the DVD Burner option which should be $100. All +XXX dollars are relative to the base configuration.)
- Upgrade to SXGA+ ($100)
- Upgrade to ATI Mobility Radeon X700 ($100)
- Upgrade from Celeron to Pentium-M 1.7 GHz ($150)
- Upgrade to 2 GHz ($350)
- Upgrade to 2.26 GHz ($800?!)
- Upgrade to 60 GB ($50)
- Upgrade to 80 GB ($100)
- Upgrade to 100 GB ($200)
- Upgrade to 120 GB ($350)
- Upgrade to DVD Burner ($150)
- Upgrade to 512 MB Memory ($75)
- Upgrade to 1 GB Memory ($175) -
Know if they're releasing a X700 15.4" model in Canada? Really interested in getting one. -
They should offer all 3 models in Canada at some point. Even if they don't, you could probably drive down to Seattle and pick up one there.
-
I drew that conclusion because the number of models (of the "A" variety) they offered is far fewer than it was a few months ago... and the number of A series laptops in the clearance/refurbished section has increased.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure that's what I saw (Unless I dreamt the whole thing... which I suppose is a distinct possibility).
Hrmm.. unless I was thinking of the X600 w/256 MB... Which I suppose is also a distinct possibility... bah. I dunno anymnore. It was some time ago that I noticed it either way (and wrote it off as "not good enough").
The only thing I remember for sure is seeing the chip w/accompanying memory and thinking "hrm... Sony seems like it's trying to get a bit more serious... and yet.. still not good enough"
A Series with 6800?!
