Hey all, I have heard some comments about how big the adaptor for the Vaio SZ is. I was wondering if there would happen to be any of the 3rd party one which is smaller or lighter?

    Thanks!

Kensington makes a very small AC/DC adapter, but it's only for 110V and I'm not sure if one of the tips will match your SZ.

first of all do a search before asking or answering a question (not to be rude) but both kensington and igo make 110/220 adapters with tips for the sz

The link was to the 120W version which is, AFAIK, not available for 220/230V.

Before hoffing someone, make sure you do it for the right reasons. Hof me for linking to a 120W when all he needs is 70 but not for the universal range part.

ok first of all i'm looking at the bottom of the 120w kensington and it says 120/240v. secondly i have used both the kensington and the igo in europe. and thirdly if you read the other thread the sz needs 90w. both charge it but the 120 seems to work better.

I've been using the Kensington 120w unit for a month or more now and it works great. Its a lot more "packable" than the Sony because it is so thin. Originally I used the Sony tip for the A series (#4 I think - not recomended by Kensington but seemed to work fine) Now Kensington has a new tip #27 out for the SZ series which also works fine.

This unit works 120/240 AC and 12 Car/Plane DC (but requires a third party or Kensington adapter for 240 plugs). Comes with 120/Car/Air plugs.

I didn't know that. And actually, I still can't find it anywhere on the site. But if jimboutilier confirmed it, there's little point in arguing. And if it requires 90W, the 120W is the only viable option from kensington as their other models are 70W.

Hmm.. So sony requires 90W, and kingston is 120W?

Would that do any harm to the battery though?

The power cable to power block is too short on the Kensington. I have been travelling for the last two weeks and often, when using a US to UK converter plug, the cable kept popping out of the wall socket because it was hanging over the ground. My only grumble.
