On the Alienware threads everybody did their own personal reviews of their systems. When the m15x came out, there were dozens of reviews. Now, Sony releases several new models, and yet you see next to nothing about them. I'm looking at the Z series, but have little solid information to base a decision off of.

Maybe the type of people that buy Sony's aren't the sort of people that get on forums and write reviews?

Don't think it's suspicious unless you're implying that no one is buying Sony laptops?

There have been lots of reviews/comments/thoughts on the Official Sony Vaio Z thread. The only problem is that they're very difficult to find since the thread is so humongous and most people don't post separate threads for their own reviews. I think PhilFlow recently started a thread with resources about the Z, so you could try requesting that people find their own posts/reviews there to see if you get more information.

I don't think it's suspicious since the Z's have only shipped recently, and there have been a few comprehensive reviews on the SR already, so maybe people don't feel like adding redundancy?

Like Lattice said, there are many user reports in the Sony Z Owners thread.

    Suspicious?

I have ordered my Z as fast as I could (almost 3 weeks ago!), and I'm still waiting! Not that many people have their Z already!

Perhaps those Sony owners are too busy working to recoup the expensive, usually over the top prices for their notebook? :D

    +1... or would it be 3? :p

I've taken some great pictures of the unboxing and more importantly the unit, and I've begun a spreadsheet detailing several benchmarks on the system both with the 320GB 5400RPM and my Hitachi 7200RPM 200GB, as well as the best performing NVIDIA drivers (not done). I'll post a large review once I find the shortcomings of this laptop, and there are some, but thus far I have only seen a masterpiece of engineering.

    Suspicious?

You bet!! It's a vast right wing conspiracy. The black helicopters are hovering right out side ever Z model owners house, just waiting for them to dare to write a review.

I would say that most people who bought the Z really don't have time right now to write a user review. It is a business class laptop afterall. You see most user reviews in the forums are for gaming laptops, not to say that gamers have a lot of time on their hands but I think gamers are more compelled to write user reviews and note their experiences.

Mine should be arriving this week and I did plan on writing a comprehensive review but I just looked at my coursework for this semester and it looks time consuming so I'll do my best to write one up complete with unboxing pics and such like Plazmic.

Wow! Your upcoming review sounds very complete and thorough. I don't have the means to compare different hard drives so that's definitely interesting information to know.

That would be very interesting. Any idea when you'll show this?

Are you inly running synthetic benchmarks or also real world timings? I'd love to see the latter.

Please dont post it on the official Z owners thread, it will disappear, and I'll never get to see it.

I'd really like to see a review with a direct comparison between the 25W P9500 2.53 GHz and 35W T9600 2.8 GHz chips in a Sony Vaio, in terms of battery life, real world speed improvements, fan noise etc. I guess there's little chance of that kind of data surfacing for a while. One person who bought their Z series in Japan with a T9600 2.8 GHz chip mentioned that it was a different (and possibly quieter) fan to the one used for the other chips. If this was the case I'd like to hear how this different fan affects power consumption.

Hi Philflow, is that somewhere in the official owner's thread? Do they have recordings of the T9600 and P9500?

Yeah somewhere in there, don't know where though.

It compared two models, not sure which ones.
