I have a VAIO VGN NW130J. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 processor running AMI Bios version R0170Y4. I want to install an Intel X-25M Gen2 160MB Solid State Drive and upgrade the Vista x64 to Win7 x64. The SSD seems to work best with AHCI, but when I go into the bios, I don't get many options at all - basically I can change the date, time and boot order - that's about it.

From reading the forums, I think the SSD works best with AHCI enabled, but I have no clue how to do so on this machine. Checking Sony's site, there are no bios updates for the NW series. Checking the forums, there are mentions of bios updates for NW's, but when you go to the site, the NW is not listed as being supported (I'm not applying a bios "update" without knowing it will work on my machine).

I'm not sure if VT applies to AHCI, but from Intel's site, it does not appear that the T6500 processor supports VT. I read the entire enabling VT thread, but I also could not find someone with an NW that applied levicki's patch. I believe this NW has an MBX-160 motherboard, but do not know if it would support an upgrade to an Intel T6670 processor that does support VT.

So, I'm thinking I'm stuck because of this processor. Do I really need AHCI for the SSD install? Will levicki's patch work if Intel says this processor won't support VT? Does VT have anything to do with AHCI? Does anyone have a way to unlock the bios so I can tweak it a bit?

    Appreciate the assistance.
