    Vaio VPCF115FM

Can connect fine with 2.4ghz band, but it will not even see the 5ghz SSID from the WNDR3700 that my wifes old laptop can see and connect to.

Latest driver from Sony if that says much.
Rebooted. Adhox 11n option clicked under advanced properties.

    Any ideas?

Would like to upgrade to a 5ghz modem in my Sony VPCF115FM from it;s ridiculous AR9287 modem. Would like to upgrade and curious if anyone knows of a plug and play wireless option?

The Atheros card does not support 5gHz so no driver is going to change that. I was very disappointed in this as well. If you get adventurous want to take apart your computer, it's been confirmed that the Intel Centrino 6200 card can be successfully installed in its place and will work on an F11. Otherwise, there are USB 5GHz adapters and even a few express card ones. I'm not going to recommend any in particular since I haven't used any of them, but you can do a google search and look at customer reviews.

Edit: For you or anyone else interested, here is a link for installing the 6200. It has been confirmed by more than one person as well.

The AR9287 used in VPCF115FM does not support 5Ghz and does not support wireless N. I'm currently using a linksys AE1000 which seems to working in connecting at full speed to my linksys E4200. This seems to be an easier option than re-installing the wireless card on the laptop

As an afternote I'm just cursing myself that I got a SONY VAIO. Will never again buy a SONY laptop.

Maybe this will help the others who are considering buying SONY VAIO Laptops.
