Strange question for people not reading about ASUS laptops when thinking of buying one.

If you are from EUROPE, Asus UK and Asus NL will make you want to kill someone because of their bad RMA. If you are from the states, the service seems to be perfect. You are outside both so, don't know how you will do your RMA in case you choose Asus.

I own the U6Sg and its a posh looking laptop. Light, good looking, and sexy.

    Those are the pros...

    Cons?

    1. Poor battery life.
    2. Poor optical drive.
    3. Annoying touch pad.
    4. Hit and miss keyboard.

The U6V is the same thing but with the Montevina refresh.

I don't know about the Sony but the U6 is very nice but sensitive to motion. You move 2 cm, you need to adjust the screen. Colours are lovely, the LED backlight is very well done. No huge leaks.

    Also, a nice warning!

I put mine into sleep mode and it turned on by itself in my backpack. I got to my meeting, wanted to take it out, and almost had a 3rd degree burn. The laptop fan was spinning like crazy to cool off. I ran HW monitor and it had 90 degrees on CPU !!!

Reason? Asus guy who designed it made it in a way so the power button can be used with the lid closed. I have to put it in my bag and remove battery now because of this incident.

    thanks for your reply !!
i don't know why this happen to you sorry !! but i know friend who has this model for a year now and no problem with it and he siad it's amazing !! but i want to compare it with vaio Sr !!

some times you have bad experience with a laptop but that not mean all lines are the same !!

    i owned asus l4
    asus W3
    asus w7
    asus R1

    and vaio Cr

they all good but vaio Cr has best screen , on other hand it get very hot and not that reliability like asus W3 and W7 .

but now U6 and Sr have LED screen and i want compare between the two screens if any body watch these two laptops ( u6 and SR )

for the price, between this two systems, i would go with the SR. the screen is slightly bigger at 13.3 and the ratio is 16 to 10 but from my personal experience, its the one of the best out there. this is pretty much supported throughout the forums, second only to the Z. the system is a good deal for the money.

I say that the Asus will have better build quality and the SR better screen.
Asus poor battery life and the SR the battery problem.

oops, haha forgot to take that off. personally i don't see anything wrong with the sony build quality. the battery drain has been reported but i haven't had issue with it either.

With the 6 cell battery the SR with the dedicated card appears to get about the same battery life as the Asus U6V. Of course the SR model with the integrated card will give you better battery life. If you get this model though you will lose out on the HDMI port.
The Asus sports a 256MB 9300GS graphics card. It also sports a HDMI port and with a 8 cell battery it can reach to over 5 hours of battery life.

It also weighs 1.91kg with the 8 cell battery.
I think that Asus are improving where battery life is concerned now.
The Asus model also has got built in mobile broadband.

The only concern i would have with the Asus would be the leather palmrests. How well would they hold up after one year of use that would be my concern.
