I want to try to leave this out of the big thread - I think it's getting a bit too cluttered.

Anyway, I'm not too well-read when it comes to graphics cards. I'm a typical female gamer and want to play Spore and Sims 3 when they come out the end of this year/2009.

Spore's system requirements are: Windows XP/Vista, 2.0 GHz P4 processor or eq., 512 MB RAM (768 for Vista), 128 MB video card (Pixel Shader 2.0 support), 6 GB HD.

Is the FW's graphics card going to be able to support it well? I was looking at a Lenovo which has a NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M. Of course Lenovo doesn't have Blu-Ray or the beauty of Sony...

it will do fine for those games...also take into consideration the new vaios allow for a maximum of 1.56 GB memory to be used by the ATI graphics card.

Any word on the HD3650 256MB? Or will they not offer it on the FW series at all?

I think the 3650 is being offered in the FW in some European countries.

The only games laptops cards cannot handle are high resolution - high FPS games. Like call of duty and **** like that...

I needed to see if the HD 3470 would be okay for AVCHD video editing, so I started pokin' around. So far I've read a few good reviews, and nothing negative.

Seems right. Which is very weird because normally US gets more options.

Maybe a new model will appear in a few weeks. I will not be surprised if it does, seeing the huge amount of people that complain about the default GPU.

it is strange that we UK users also got the 8600m gs in the old FZ Series and you in the US were slapped with the 8400m gt. We ha to be treated i think sony make more money off us europeans.

It's not only Europeans. Singapore, Australia and Korean customers also have a choice of 8600M GS but no such choice in the US. Sony VAIO is very popular here in the States. I am still puzzled that the much larger US market share doesn't have the same choice. I am sure that they lost a lot of customers because of that. Pretty dumb marketing decision by Sony

don't think it's all that likely. it may appear as a special model on a refresh later on.

Call of Duty 4 on the FZ was alright in low-medium settings, so i expect it to be ok the on FW too.
