Decided to redo the first post to keep it tidy. The links for the old files are below but there is no need to download them.

Driver and Utilites below are from VAIO FTP, US/EU VAIO Support and Intel Download Center. VAIO don't always post the same versions on their EU and US sites and new drivers aren't listed for older models even though they are compatiable. Sony are also slow to make the latest Intel drivers available. All drivers have been extracted to bypass the model version check, usually found on drivers from the US site.

    How to Install

Most of the folders only contain the driver and *.inf files. I prefer to install drivers this way to prevent the installation of software I'll never use.

    • To install extract the archive to a folder, e.g C:\drivers.
    • Open Device Manager and right click through each device selecting "Update Driver Software". See pic Install_Step_1.jpg
    • Select "Browse my computer for driver software". See pic Install_Step_2.jpg
    • Browse to C:\Drivers and make sure "Include subfolders" is checked and click Next. See pic Install_Step_3.jpg

If an updated driver is found it will be installed. Don't worry if an updated driver isn't found. Some devices don't need updates.

Thanks for pulling this info together. I'm unable to open the three zip archives listed above unfortunately.

Ian, I created the zip archive using 7-zip (freeware). You should be able to extract the files using winrar, winzip or 7-zip.

Make sure all 3 files are in the same folder and select the first file.

Which app are you using to extract and what error message do you get?

You need to start on the fist file, .001.
It's one archive split into 3 parts.

Uploading the files again. this time as a 7-zip archive.
I might not get time to post the links until I get home, finish work in 10 mins.

Over 10 people have downloaded the files now. Would like to hear from others if the archive is corrupt.

You're not supposed to open these. Open the first one and it extracts the contents of all three zip folders into one folder automatically. For the second set of programs look in the "Sony Notebook Utilities (1.0)" folder in the extracted folder.

    Mujja,

If you were 20,000kms closer I'd buy you a beer. (or whatever your preference is). Thanks to you I now have a fully working 64 bit Win7 OS. Every driver and program works perfectly. I do have to insert a card to see the CF,SD and MS drives but that's not an issue at all.

So I'd just like to give you a big virtual pat on the back. Thanks... :notworthy:

    Thanks :)

I actually prefer the flash drives not shown in My Computer, makes it looks cleaner. I wonder if that's a Win7 feature or something to do with the way the drivers were installed.

    You're welcome.

Is that the 185.81_win7_64bit_beta driver? If you run the setup it only updates the HDMI audio driver. To install it extract the files in to a folder (7-Zip extracts them) and do a manual install via device manager.

You will see an error message saying they are not digitally signed or not meant for your device but continue any way. I guess that's the reason they aren't installed via the setup program.

I only have a rapidshare account. If I can upload as a non-member to some other filesharing service where would you like me to upload them to?

Better still I've changed the settings on the files to make them instant downloads. No more waiting :)

I have a 40Gb allowance remaining. The files are 'free' to download until the 40GB runs out.

All files were fine for me. I have the eject button, av buttons and the CF card all working perfectly.

I am having an issue with the fingerprint scanner. Win 7 seems to keep dropping the driver. I've tried a few including yours and this one from Sony

    http://www.vaio-link.com/os/vista/64bit/

which are beta 64 bit drivers for non-64 bit sony laptops. But the thing keeps dropping out on booting. It's not a big deal. But it would be nice to have "everything" working. It's not the driver you loaded. The issue happens with every driver I've tried. Will have a look at the USB power settings.

Go to upek.com and download the Pre-release software ..

    http://upek.com/support/downloads/windows7/learnmorew7.asp

Remove the existing Upek software (from Programs & Features) and driver (Devices/Biometric Devices) and then install the above. Works well and is an impressive update.

Thanks all.. I managed to load the old driver and then get windows update to find a new one. I also disabled power saving for it in the device manager. So now it seems to be working just fine.

Looks like I'm at 100% functional status ;-) in 64 bit.

Hi everybody. It is my first time posting in here. This is an excellent and very usefull thread.

Gordon you can try this: In Windows Explorer, go to Organize > Folder and Search Options > View tab and then uncheck the "Hide empty drives in the Computer folder" option.

It works for me and now I can see the 3 drives in Computer folder "CF, Memory Stick and SD/MMC".

I'am using Win 7 RC x 64 from MS site. My Vaio is VGN-AW-170Y/Q.

What's the version number of your installed driver?

That app is telling you your driver is out of date. I've included the latest drivers available from Intel !!!

I don't know what you're saying and can't tell from those pics what drivers you have installed and which one is giving you trouble.

Also, they don't like drivers downloaded from this thread. Please post only questions related to drivers installed from this thread.

I didn't include a driver for the TV tuner as UK and UK models have different tuners and only the top UK model includes a tuner. Mine doesn't which is why I didn't think to include one.

If/when drivers are found please post them here and I'll add them to the driver pack.

Aleicgrant, I have this same model (170Y/Q). Right after installing 7 RC x64 I had a "multimedia video controller" device not recognized by 7 at the beginning. I don't know if this can help you.
