    Hi,

    i've a VPCZ11 with the 7200 RPM 500 GB HDD.
I would add a 1,8" SSD drive to my configuration and i've found a possible solution:

    a) buy the this caddy http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_39&products_id=335 and connect the current drive with this adapter
    b) buy a 1,8" SSD and put it into the empty location reserved to the SSD version
    c) buy a Flexible Printerd Circuit or something else to connect the SSD to the MB

    My questions follows:
Do you think that this solution is possible? If yes, where i can buy the right FPC to connect the SSD to the MB?
The 1,8"SSD drive fit into the VPCZ11 SSD location out-of-the box?

    Thank you for any answer

You don't need a) because you already have your hard drive in the bay where the ODD sits in (other Z models). This caddy is only for people that want to replace their ODD with a 2,5" drive.
You need a Z12/Z13 ribbon cable with mSATA connectors to hook up a 1,8" drive stripped from its enclosure. Probably the hardest part is to get hold of that ribbon cable.

    This is true.
I wanted the a) adapter due to the difficulty to find a suitable cable :(

Put a 2,5" SSD in and use your 500gb drive external. This is the cheapest (you just need the SSD and a 2,5" usb enclosure) way to get a massive upgrade speed-wise.

In sparepart warehouse the is no price atm, i have to call them.

Keep in mind that the FPC-202 / FPC-209 cables are only suitable for the ZIF drives. You need the Z12 cables with mSATA connectors! (Dunno the P/N's tho).

so the FPC-217 seems the right choice, could someone confirm this please?

My goal is to add a 1,8" SSD with mSata interface (like this one Newegg.com - Intel X18-M Mainstream SSDSA1MH080G201 1.8" 80GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - SSD)

EDIT: i saw this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/511578-how-replace-ssd-vaio-vpcz11-vpcz12-non-sony-ssd.html
    so i think i'm right :)

The FPC-202 cost 23 USD (vs 54 USD of the FPC-217).
Buy a ZIF SSD could be another (maybe cheaper) solution.

The Z11's ZIF sockets on the SSD are proprietary, aren't it? I mean, how can you hook up two logic drives through one ZIF socket if it is a standard SATA interface? Or do the drives have port multipliers on board? Weird...

the idea is to hook the ZIF SSD drive to the Z11 ZIF socket with the FPC-202 and hook the 500GB HDD to the slimSata connector with the caddy in the starter post.

If this is possible i'll be able to obtain the same result (hybrid SSD/HDD configuration) with less money...not bad at all :)
