I've seen people with Alps Touchpads on Dell 1530 and they have multi touch gestures working. So I would think it would be possible on Vaio Z too.
Here's the info on the Dell forum:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=308940
Did anyone try it? or get it working?
On Vaio's with synaptics touchpads:

this seems pretty interesting.. i would love the circular gesture scroll.. but i dont think i want to be the guinea pig after just completing a clean install and passing all the files to my laptop =\
-
I love to try this. heheheh!! Thanks for the info PhilFlow.
-
someone take one for the team
-
tried it didnt work
-
is it limited by the hardware? -
dont know followed the instructions got it to install but none of the gestures worked
-
I got it to install but now the Device Settings tab in the driver windows has disappeared. Anyone know how to get it back?
-
i just do a system restore
-
I can confirm that this works on a Toshiba Tecra M7. My model's hardware (aside from video card, LEDs, and media buttons) is identical to the Satellite R10/R25 so it should work on those models as well. I don't know what version my ALPS trackpad is...it's not easily listed as far as I know like the Synaptics ones are.
-
It works fine on my Z17GN/B. I have tested the right side, the bottom side Scroll and Circular gesture and the left Zoom.
-
really did you do anything diffrent from the instructions
-
ok i got it to work this time pretty cool
-
Does it only work with firefox (after the add-ons are installed as well), or does it work perfectly well in internet explorer (and windows itself?) too?
typo -
DanyBui81 and fredguy, are you guys running Vista or XP?
-
I am running Vista Ultimate x64.
All 3 functions work with IE and MSword2007.
Zoom not work in Adobe Flash CS4. -
What about two finger gestures? any?
-
Yes i tried the first link and it worked and i now have a Dell touchpad in my icons. I am not sure if i am going to keep it this way.
I also tried the second link before i don't know why lol i don't think that it registered to me that i have an Alps touchpad. Anyway i think i tried that one before and it never worked and as i do not use a mouse it was a little tricky in working my way into the control panel to change things back without the trackpad working.
Edited to add:
The Dell touchpad is not allowing me to cut and paste so i need to get rid of it. -
-
Nice, the DELL drivers for alps touchpad works fine for me
All the gestures works fine, too bad there isn't an option for two fingers instead of draging along one side and at the same time do circular motions to scroll, though this option is nice too, like ipod
-
It works only with Vista right? In the dell link at the compatibility is written only Vista 32-bit and 64-bit, but no XP.
-
Yah I am using Vista Ultimate and yes Firefox back and forth action works when you in stall the nightlytester extention
-
Maybe on Dell's website or Alp's. -
Does this work on the SR??
-
If so, check out this thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=306768 -
Yeah it has a synaptics touchpad.
I have already tried that before.. just tried it again... it doesn't work -
Have you tried installing the latest driver from Synaptics.com ? -
so i think it should also works on vista..
yep, i checked but it's still the same old driver (10.1.8 ... the one without chiralmotion) -
I think it should be possible Tony. don't give up
Try asking in the hardware forum. Or use this thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=305521&highlight=multitouch -
I updated my drivers and poked around the registry (I have an SR) and it has entries for 2 and 3 finger mappings. Now to figure out how to enable them....
Anyone else try? -
i'll try that -
(Great find by the way!) -
I assume that the title of this thread is incorrect since I can't find any multi touch gestures...
But anyways I got it working with XP on the Z too! Thanks! -
-
What about that:
"Touch gestures for Vaio Z. Working now! (Vista and XP)"
Btw: How is the firefox back/forward supposed to work?
With scrolling on the bottom of the touchpad?
I tried the nightly build hack, but it doesn't seem to work... -
I thought of something else. I liked it better
-
any updates on how this is running?
-
-
does asia-pacific z machines not use the synaptics drivers?
i cant's seem to get this to work...
it comes up as standard point device rather than a synaptics touchpad -
the Z uses Alps touchpad, not Synaptics'
-
wow this is pretty neat; i have all the features working including the back/forward gestures.
-
-
Has anyone tried this on an SZ?
-
-
Please note that if you an error on reboot you need to download the ezlauncher.dll and install in the delltpad folder in program files. The link to the dell forum thread has the .dll if you need it.
-
Strange, but I am not getting an error. I'll give it a try again from fresh. Thanks.

There is something wrong with the Dell driver, my MS mouse suddenly cannot do horizontal scroll. I had to uninstall MS driver and re-install it. I think the Dell driver is not stable, on my TT. I might go back to vaio's driver.
-
Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou,
This Solved a lot of problems on my TXN-15 whoever figured this out rocks -
Does anyone know if a 32 bit Alps driver with support for gestures exist?
Either for Windows 7 or Vista.
Added functionality and gestures for VAIOs with Alps Touchpad (Z/TT/...). Working now!
