I'm still a bit unclear on adding an SSD to the TZ later on. So I'm planning to get the version with just a regular 5400 RPM drive and no DVD drive. Would I have to take out the old hard drive and replace it or could I just stick the SSD where the DVD drive would be? If the latter is possible, since the DVD drive is 2.5", can I then get a 2.5" SSD and use that as the primary boot disk?

There is written a lot around here. But here you are:
    1) You can have both of them: 2,5" and SSD too . But SSD has to be 1,8" and has to have ZIF connector (there is a special cage for it. Look a bit around or click here). SSD for OS and HDD for data..
Or you can swap the 2,5" HDD for 2,5" SSD but I think nobody has it like this on this forum or he/she didn't share remarks..

    Jirka is correct.

I have ordered the 160Gb option with NO dvd drive. This leaves the 1.8" connector free for an SSD (which I will add when prices are not so crazy for 64Gb etc etc) while the 2.5" slot is used for the HDD. I also intend to replace the 2.5" 160Gb drive with a 7200rpm Hitachi 160Gb or 200Gb drive...that should improve performance by quite a bit.
