    [I'm sure i'm overlooking something.

when i try to login in the administrator account it say that i am restricted. (a different message when i enter a wrong pw says - wrong password.)

i cannot create an admin account in the user accounts b/c the account already exists.
    anybody have any ideas?

i do have an account named "Alan" that has administrator priveledges, but it seems as though i should be able to access and 'administrator' account.

Boot into the Alan Admin account as as that user you should be able to change all acounts as you want them.

Just FYI: For this, goto Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management: Local users and groups. Make sure that the Administrator account is in the Administrators group.

my laptop isn't with me right now, so i'll be playing with this tonite.
I was definitely in the Alan (Administrative Acnt) as this is the only account.
it wouldn't let me create an account named 'Administrator' b/c it said one already existed.
Where it displayed the accounts in local users and groups
it had Alan and Guest. This is pretty strange situation, which is why i posted...
thanks for the ideas, let me know if you have any more.
