I have a Sony Vaio AW11Z which comes preloaded with Acrobat 8. The problem was that no matter how many time I registered the product, the pop-up appeared every time the application started - very annoying! :(

Having raised this with Sony Vaio-link support, we have solved the problem.

The cause is that I have User Access Control turned on to protect my registry and when Acrobat tries to update the registry to record that the software has been registered, it can't get access. Disabling UAC doesn't seem to help once an attempt has been made to register the product.

    The solution was this:

Disable user access control (UAC) and restart the laptop
Using the Vaio Recovery Centre (in All Programs), delete the existing Adobe Acrobat 8 installation and then restart the laptop
Using the Vaio Recovery Centre, reinstall the original Acrobat software
Connect to the internet (if not already), start Acrobat and then register the product
    Close the application
    Restart UAC
    Restart the laptop

Seems to have done the trick on my laptop. Hope this helps.

Interesting observation (" The cause is that I have User Access Control turned on to protect my registry and when Acrobat tries to update the registry to record that the software has been registered, it can't get access.")and work-around.

I would think that Adobe would ask for the next level up, resulting in another UAC prompt. Thanks for sharing.

    cheers ...
