I've got an older VAIO laptop. My problem isn't with the computer itself, but I don't know where else to post this. Any website that has pictures/video's, require the installing of ActiveX. Every time I click install, nothing happens and the pictures just show up with a little x in their place. I believe it to be a problem with my firewalls, but even when I turn everything off, it still will not install the controls. Please help!!! There are very few websites that don't require ActiveX.

Go to adobe.com & download adobe flash player.
    download java player from java.com
Do u have internet explorer 7? download it from microsoft.com
    or/and download firefox2 from mozilla.com
try and access the website from both browsers.

    if it doesnt work still,
what antivirus, firewall & antispyware do u have.
if u aint got one buy norton internet security 2007
only for $23 from symantec.com & rid ur system of all viruses!!
actually its $69 but comes with 3 licenses

is your computer up-to-date? go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com

I have ie7 and I have just done a windows update. Still does not work. I finally broke down and downloaded FireFox. I have it at work and do not like it because a lot of sites do not work. I tried it at home, and all of my activex problems are solved. I have an old Norton Security, but havent updated for over a year.......maybe that is my problem. I'll have to try a new version of that. I was also reading on here about spybot.com. Is that a pretty good site?

adobe active x? or is it adobe flash?

Try setting all the settings to default in IE.

adobe flash 9 player have a problem with user permission. If you install it with administrator account you are only able to view flash with admin account and not other account.

spybot is a very good antispyware but you need a more complete solution.

you can combine zonealarm zonelabs + avg free grisoft + adaware lavasoft
you can combine firewall ++++++++++ antivirus ++++++ antispyware
windows defender, spybot SD and maybe yahoo antispyware toolbar.

all free or better still just invest in an internet security software

you are experiencing a virus attack and malware outbreak.
    your system is heavyly infected.
i suspect you have not been running any security software just like you said "your norton security is out of date"

I appreciate the help. I will go buy a new version of Norton and install that. Hopefully that fixes my problems. I'm sure it won't hurt any. Thank You.
