After AHCI - odd 10-20 second "semi freezes" (SZ71VN/X)

    Little question:

November 2009 I got an SSD - and since then I have switched on AHCI in the BIOS on an install done in IDE mode - all worked well, but:

For some reason I have maybe 10-20 seconds after logging in - or after standby in which possibly explorer.exe freezes (can't do anything with windows, or loudness, brightness etc. but can move cursor) - that's on Intel Matrix Drivers.
On MS AHCI drivers boot up is delayed by 10-20 seconds - then all is well...

    Now the question:
Is that normal on an SZ71VN/X or is there something wrong and a new instal from the recovery discs would remove that problem?

If there is some incompatibility with AHCI I can live with it - I've lived with that little lag for quite a wile now - but if its not normal I might at some point in the nearer future reinstall the OS - has anybody got any comments?

(And I don't have any pointers in the error log that tell me why this could happen... )

    Edit - 22nd Feb 2010:
No solution it seems - went to IDE mode until new install of OS - see last post.

    I did that X times...

The odd thing was - I might reinstall its good on the first reboot, then its the lag again...

I could remove MSE - it was good, then the lag returned - reinstalled MSE - it was OK, then the lag returned?

Removed the driver - MSAHCI was slow... Tried Intel - worked well on its first boot, then the lag returned...

    On a side note:
I just installed the new MSE version and my startup logged by the event viewer sped up? :)

Did you try the new Intel SATA/ AHCI driver I had linked?

I did try some rapid storage drivers - but are they meant for a PM965 chipset? I think they might not install.

The rapid storage driver supports all mobile chipsets. Update from the device manager using the extracted zip file.

I just installed them as an update - didn't work... so I'll try fully removing it now and then installing again.

    Edit:
    Nope, didn't help.

    On a side note...

    MS AHCI hangs during booting.

iaStor hangs either: before you lofg in (Enter your password, use your fingerprint) or if you are quick at the welcome screen.

On a side note - I'm getting an iaStor timeout on Port 0 - that is the SSD - could that be the case? Its an Intel SSD though...

    Edit2 - 22nd Feb 2010:

I went to IDE mode as I got fed up with the delays... I'll give AHCI another try when I reinstall the OS - and I don't want to do this at the moment.
Queued writes and reads suffer a lot from IDE mode :( but I should be able to live with it - still better than a HDD.
Oh, and top speed suffers a bit on reads - but in the end, who cares?
