    Hello again,

So, I made a clean install of Windows 7 on my Sony VPCEB1S1E/BJ last night, mainly because the language this laptop came in was wrong and I couldn't understand anything (Home Premium, so couldn't change it either). After the install I noticed the laptop became very slow, so I reverted it using recovery discs which were supposed to reset the laptop back to factory defaults. Ok, the language went back to the original and everything was as before. But... now the laptop is very slow, especially with boot times.

I receive a lot of errors and critical errors which show up in the event lists. Event ID is usually 100, or 102-106. A few messages aboiut how some programs delayed the boot, a few about cd-rom driver delaying the boot...

    Any ideas what to do??

The only thing I can think of is try to get the latest drivers, do a windows update and see if you can turn off the programs you don't want from running in the system tray (if there are any).

I did all that the first thing but it didn't help. Someone told me to do a clean install again but install the drivers in a specific order (intel first etc), so I'm giving that a shot.

Reinstall the os in your preferred language. I agree that a specific order may work when installing the drivers.

Have you installed the chipset drivers?

Well it didn't help. I installed the chipset driver first, then the intel graphics driver, then ati graphs driver and ethernet (After this randomly). The HDD seems to be doing something at all times and the CPU usage bounces from 1-25% a lot. I'm not getting any error messages (besides from one about wlan, which doesn't seem to have much to do with the system), though but the reboot is still very slow and game performance has gone down....

Please, if you have any ideas, help!

Restore with backup DVD and claim warranty. This sounds a bit fishy to me. It's easily possible to mess up the clean install, but recovery DVD should work every time.

Well for some reason the recovery disc #2 gives me an error "file could not be found, check the condition of the disc", so I assume I have to purchase a new set of recovery discs from Sony and then do it, and THEN send it for repair.. Sigh... LOL

Restart, keep pressing F10 and you should get the recovery screen from hidden recovery partition...it's practically the same as the one on DVD, just should be without errors ;)

I agree with Metsn in that you may need warranty service.
